The latter two thirds of “Into the Stars” are on opposite ends of the fun scale, though neither are terrible or amazing, more “poor and good”, the contrast is rather stark. “Last of the Zetacene” is far too blunt with its message and has no interesting characters where as “Break The Ice” felt like a script right out of Russell T. Davies’ playbook complete with likable cast being hounded by a fairy-tale like monster on a space station. Want to know more? Click onwards!

Doctor Who: Into the Stars – Salvation Nine Review
The next set of Ninth Doctor Adventures goes from Earth-based to space-based, putting a title on … well, what Doctor Who does all the time anyway. Salvation Nine is a good example of taking a simple idea of “The Ninth Doctor meets the Sontarans” and giving it a bigger spin than you’d otherwise have to, taking a deeper dive into the clone race than perhaps has ever been taken…
Continue readingDoctor Who: Back to Earth – Auld Lang Syne Review
The final part of Back to Earth, Auld Lang Syne, is one of those stories that came out of nowhere to really blow me away. It’s so well written and acted, and has a plenty of twists and turns, too. Let’s take a closer look!
Continue readingDoctor Who: Back to Earth – Station to Station & The False Dimitry Review
Ignoring the obvious joke about having a boxset titled “Back to Earth” when most of the Ninth Doctor’s audio run so far has been entirely set ON Earth (including the previous two-part finale) let’s take a look at the first two stories of Mr. Eccleston’s second audio drama run, shall we?
Continue readingDoctor Who: Old Friends – Way of the Burryman / The Forth Generation Review
This two part story manages to tick several boxes here, not just being a really good two-parter for the Ninth Doctor, not just a story where the Ninth Doctor meets the Brigadier, but also a more traditional Cyberman story for Mr. Eccleston after the admittedly great but very unusual one we got in the last set. While it’s not perfect, for example I have no interest in the Sam Bishop character that’s presented here like it’s a long awaited bit of backstory, but overall it’s a really enjoyable two hours. Let’s take a closer look!
Continue readingDoctor Who: Old Friends – Fond Farewell Review
The last of the… current series? Sort of? … Erm, of the Ninth Doctor audio dramas has arrived and it’s neatly split into a single episode and a two-part finale, though I will say that the finale will have a lot to live up to as this story, “Fond Farewell”, was great. Well written, acted and felt extremely of-era, there’s a lot to like, so let’s take a look!
Continue readingDoctor Who: Lost Warriors – Monsters in Metropolis Review
We reach the “main event” of the Lost Warriors boxset with Monsters in Metropolis, a story that features the first ever encounter between the Ninth Doctor and the Cybermen… well, I should say Christopher Eccleston and the Cybermen because they have met in a comic once before… Anyway, the idea of the central automaton from the all-time classic film being replaced with a Cyberman was a really fun concept and with John Dorney holding the metaphorical pen I knew the concept was in safe hands! Let’s take a look…
Continue readingDoctor Who: Lost Warriors – The Hunting Season & The Curse of Lady Macbeth Review
The Ninth Doctor is back on audio for another set of three stories, and while the third and final act rightfully has all the attention how do these first two stories fare? A mixed bag, frankly, though both feel very of-era and pass an hour with another set of great performances from Mr. Eccelston. Let’s take a look, shall we?
Continue readingDoctor Who: Respond to All Calls – Planet of the End Review
The second volume of the Ninth Doctor adventures comes to a close with another really fun hour-long story that feels very much of the time but also uses the audio format well on top of nailing the tone and characterisation of The Doctor. Also aliens in business suits! Let’s take a look…
Continue readingDoctor Who: Respond to All Calls – Girl Deconstructed & Fright Motif Review
After a rough and “out-of-period” three-part story we get some Ninth Doctor audio stories that are not only more tightly written and edited but feel far more like they belong alongside the 2005 series this Doctor originated from. Thankfully Christopher Eccleston is still on fine enthusiastic form behind the microphone so it makes for a fun time to listen. Want to know more? Of course you do!
