The final film in “Phase 4”, otherwise known as the “bit in between two big story arcs”, finishes in the same way as the others, as in being perfectly fine but not really worth shouting about. Sadly a lot of this has to do with the passing of Chadwick Boseman, whose charismatic presence was extremely missed from the film, and the choice of making Letitia Wright’s Shuri character the new central figure. Still though, we finally got an MCU version of Namor and he even has the crappy looking ankle wings! Hooray! Let’s take a close look…

Die Hard 2: Die Harder Review
Twas the night… after Christmas and John McClane is having to deal with terrorists again! It’s time to look at the second Die Hard film and the only other one to be once again set on Christmas Eve. While nowhere near as iconic and fun as the first, nor as entertaining and original as the third, Die Hard 2 is still a fun two hours that does mix some original elements in amongst sadly far too much copying of the first film. Let’s take a look!
Continue readingDie Hard Review
Twas the night before Christmas, and all throughout the house not a creature was stirring, except… Terrorists taking over Nakatomi Plaza, naturally! Yes although I didn’t manage to look at all five films and the three games I wanted to over Christmas I still wanted to cover the original and its sequel at least given their setting, getting to the others next year; so let’s start unsurprisingly with the first one! Die Hard is one of those classics that deserves every bit of praise that has come its way, both for being a great film itself and for how much it influenced pop culture in the years since. So while I won’t be adding anything new to the long list of reviews this film has racked up, I’ll be adding to it regardless!
Continue readingThor: Love and Thunder Review
The latest Thor film is an interesting one as I found it more palatable than Ragnarok but a lot of people have been really down on it, citing reasons that I was previously down on Ragnarok for that I feel Love and Thunder addressed. Well, different strokes and all that! So let’s take a closer look at the further adventures of Thor…
Continue readingDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Review
Another MCU “Phase 4” film that, while very entertaining, was clearly a bit of a mess backstage and relied heavily on multiversal cameos to gets pops out of the audience. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has some merit, don’t get me wrong, but without the warm central performance of Tom Holland this take on the multiverse-crossing shenanigans isn’t quite up to par, though some of the visuals were properly stunning. Let’s take a deeper look anyway because… well, that’s just what I do here…
Continue readingSpider-Man: No Way Home Review
The latest cinematic entry in the MCU (only just as of this post, mind you…) sees Spider-Man deal with the after-effects of his identity being revealed at the end of the previous film as well as continuity baggage from the two previous Spider-Man film universes! Plus lots of Doctor Strange and much more besides; does it manage to actually pull off a film worth watching in amongst all this noise? The answer may surprise you…
Continue readingThe Matrix Resurrections Review
So I finally go around to watching the fourth Matrix film after hearing mostly negative things, and you know what? This time… they’re pretty spot on, sadly. Seemingly pointing the finger at and insulting people who like the original films, really bad fight choreography and just flat and dull direction and often acting, this film has “we didn’t want to make it” written all over it, in one scene literally! Oh well, were there any highlights at all? Let’s see…
Continue readingEternals Review
The latest entry in the ever-growing list of MCU properties is Eternals, which I’ll be honest I wasn’t that thrilled about going into it. I got the Marvel Comics part-work set of 60 graphic novels a decade or so ago and it had Neil Gaiman’s run with the Eternals as part of it and it left no lasting impression apart from maybe one of being dull but with great artwork. Is the film better than that? Yes, I can’t say its dull that often and it certainly has some stunning visuals but I can say it didn’t really leave a lasting impression either, not one where I’m dying for, or at least looking forward to a sequel like a lot of other MCU content. Let’s take a deeper look, anyway…
Continue readingThe Matrix Revolutions Review
The Matrix trilogy (which is an incorrect term as of today in cinemas!) comes to a close with what is undeniably a bit of a let-down. While I’ll admit watching it for this review I actually liked it more than I remembered it’s still full of flaws that just weren’t present in the previous two entries. Still, with a fourth film now out, how does the old final film in the series stand up? Let’s find out!
Continue readingThe Matrix Reloaded Review
The Matrix Reloaded is often considered to be a poor sequel, and while that may be the case (the original is a hard act to follow) is it still a bad film by itself? When it came out in the cinema I didn’t think so, I thought it was frankly “awesome”, and while my opinion has changed from my 18-year-old self in the subsequent re-watches I still think it holds up as a fun two-ish hours. Let’s take a look!
