The middle of The Defenders is full of interaction between the main four heroes, as well as their seconds, and plenty of new information about The Hand, including introducing all of the “Five Fingers of the Hand”. Basically it moves the plot along just enough to set the stage for the finale, but really it’s all about the four previous leads of their own series meeting each other… and it works really well! Let’s take a closer look…
It’s finally here! When the MCU Netflix slate was announced I really liked the idea of a “street level” Avengers set up, but it kind of got lost in amongst the great first two seasons of Daredevil and season 1 of Jessica Jones, three TV seasons I consider some of the best I’ve seen. Luke Cage was good, and Iron Fist was average at best, so the past year or so I’ve started looking forward to The Defenders again, and so far it hasn’t disappointed. Thanks to all episodes being released at once the first two and a bit episodes are pretty much entirely set up, seeing what the various characters have (or haven’t) been doing since we last saw them, before the four finally meeting at the end of Episode 3. So let’s take a look at this first chunk of story, shall we?
I wasn’t sure whether or not to do an overall review for this season of Agents of SHIELD. It was perfectly segmented into three arcs, with each having been covered in separate reviews on this site, but there are over-arcing themes and plots that can be looked at, not to mention an overall look as to whether the season as a whole is worth tracking down… Plus, I like consistency, so there! With that said, let’s take a closer look!
The final third of Agents of SHIELD’s fourth season is pretty much “Agents of SHIELD does The Matrix”, though with some alternate timeline stuff thrown in. Then the last few episodes wrap up things nicely, before setting up a big new plot twist for the next season. So let’s have a better look at this third “arc”, shall we?
The MCU continues to expand into the stars as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 hit cinemas a month or two ago, and I saw it! … a week or two ago, because I don’t like crowded cinemas… and have very little money. Anyway! After the unexpected quality and success of the first film, can they capture lightning in a bottle twice? No, but that can at least continue being very funny and entertaining!
Agents of SHIELD play a game of “who can you trust?” as people start to get replaced by Life Model Decoys in this second of three story arcs this season. Despite the unoriginal concept they actually play with it really well and create a fun story. Phew! Let’s take a look.
Agents of SHIELD’s fourth season is split into three distinct but connected arcs, and judging by the first one, this was the right way to go! Plus, we finally see the MCU’s version of Ghost Rider… both the newer version and the classic (briefly)…
The Netflix arm of the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to get ever-closer to the fabled Defenders show, but sadly hits its first major stumbling block right before the finish line. Iron Fist is okay, but in a series that has had more “amazing” than even “very good”, it sticks out like a sore thumb. Let’s take a more detailed look at the series as a whole…
