To tell you the truth “Skeleton Crew” wasn’t something I was looking forward to, from its vague announcement to the first trailer and beyond nothing really clicked with me. I knew I’d give it a proper go because I love Star Wars and about half way through the series I realised that I was actually enjoying it, and then by the end it was up there with the higher end of live action Star Wars programming. It’s just pure fun, not bogged down in continuity (not that I don’t love continuity references…) or serious story telling (not that I also don’t love that either!) and instead just tells a good family adventure story. Let’s take a look!

Star Wars: The High Republic – Children of the Storm / The Hunted Review
The High Republic comics return in the shape of two connected story arcs: “Children of the Storm” and “The Hunted”. Weirdly the story then takes a break for a full cast audio drama before continuing next year, which is fine for me (a quick look on this blog will show I’m not averse to an audio drama!) but might be slightly alienating to a lot of the audience… Ah well, either way, let’s take a look at the first chunk of Phase III comics, shall we?
Continue readingStar Wars: The High Republic – Temptation of the Force Review
Phase III of the High Republic continues, at last. “Temptation of the Force” was a good read and leaves things in an interesting place heading into the era’s grand finale, shame that the next and final book isn’t out until spring next year! Arrgh! Oh well, this book sets some things up nicely and moves Avar Kriss and Elzar Mann forward in a really interesting way, so let’s take a look!
Continue readingStar Wars: The Acolyte Review
As a big fan of the High Republic books and comics (as other parts of this site will tell you!) I was really excited for Acolyte, not just seeing High Republic stuff in live action but its placement in between the HR era and Episode I and focusing on what the Sith were doing at the time. It was an interesting story to tell in an interesting time period, so did they pull it off? Well, sort of. I wasn’t as blown away with it as I was hoping, but I did really enjoy myself each week, which is fair enough for a TV show, really. Let’s take a look!
Continue readingStar Wars: The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight Review
The High Republic Phase III continues on, though admittedly much slower than the previous two phases (the wait for the next main book has felt like forever!) and with that comes “Shadows of Starlight”, a four issue comic series that basically fills in the gaps between the end of Phase I and “The Eye of Darkness”, the first book of Phase III (for those not in the know Phase II took place in the past…) It does manage this in a mostly satisfying way, even if reading it after reading the book meant a lot of the gaps had already been filled in by my mind’s eye anyway… Let’s take a look!
Continue readingStar Wars: Tales of the Empire Review
“Tales of the Empire” is both a second season to “Tales of the Jedi” and sort of its own thing, plus ironically focuses on two characters who weren’t ever really members of the Empire, not for long anyway, but there you go. Better than “Tales of these two characters we wanted to talk about” I guess! It focuses on recent live action character Morgan Elsbeth’s backstory and old Clone Wars animated character Bariss Offee’s future after her arrest during the classic cartoon show. The first is something I wasn’t that interested in, the second was at least a dangling plot thread that was fun to get tied up… so let’s take a look!
Continue readingStar Wars: The Bad Batch – Season 3 Review
The Bad Batch’s third and final season felt rushed to start with, getting through a few storylines I thought the whole season would be about, then settled into a nice groove leading to a great 50-minute finale. So once again I really enjoyed the show, as I tend to do with these Star Wars CG cartoons despite not being a fan of the animation style normally. Whether that’s due to how good the shows are or how much I like the Star Wars universe I can’t tell you, but either way: let’s take a look!
Continue readingStar Wars: Battlefront (PS2/PS5) Review
Here’s a review I never really thought I’d do, or at the very least it wasn’t on my mind, but thanks to the re-release of the two “Classic” Battlefront games I thought there would never be a better time to look at these PS2 greats from my early 20s than now. The original Battlefront was interesting because most things I remembered about the PS2 era Battlefronts comes from countless hours playing Battlefront II, I mean I played this a hell of a lot, don’t get me wrong, but as soon as BFII came out the following year I naturally stopped. So I made sure to play this a bunch (including a couple of hours of multiplayer with the same friend as the first time round!) before touching its sequel to make sure this review is focused on just the original. Oh and yes, the Battlefront Classic Collection was rough on launch, but for me who just plays offline by himself or with friends/family split-screen after the first patch I’ve had no issues… Let’s take a look!
Continue readingStar Wars: The High Republic – The Eye of Darkness Review
Phase III of the High Republic finally arrived with “The Eye of Darkness”, reuniting us with the cast of the original Phase of the era after a series of prequel books that, to be fair, I did enjoy a lot more than I thought I would. Still though, I was waiting to reunite with these characters and see what’s happening with the Nihil and Marchion Ro and I’m happy to report that for a book whose objective it was to set the scene for the big finale it did it very well indeed. Let’s take a look!
Continue readingStar Wars: The High Republic – Tales of Light and Life Review
Tales of Light and Life is a collection of short stories set both during Phase 2 and just before Phase 3, making this sort of an epilogue and a prologue at the same time, and like all short story collections there are some good ones and some bad ones, as well as some really quite pointless middling ones. Still though, I love me some High Republic so I couldn’t pass it up, even if it was mysteriously not available on the UK Kindle store unlike the rest of the series… Anyway! Let’s take a look!
