After having grown disinterested in the Diary of River Song series (mostly when it stopped featuring Doctors, I only have so much money to spend on Doctor Who Audio Dramas!) I’ve jumped back in with Series 9, dubbed “New Recruit” because it features River arriving in Season 7 era Who and joining up with The Brig and Liz Shaw in place of The Doctor (although he does appear in the final episode…) Given this is among my favourite time periods of the show I can say I was really looking forward to it. Does it live up to my hype? Let’s find out!

Doctor Who: The Devil’s Hoofprints Review
The second story in the latest Third Doctor boxset sees the return of the Doctor / Sarah Jane dynamic with Sadie Miller continuing the fantastic impression of her mum to go along with the always fun Tim Treloar as the Doctor and Jon Culshaw at The Brigadier. Returning actors aside though what’s the story like? Well, it’s good, though it may never surprise you. Let’s take a look…
Continue readingDoctor Who: Conspiracy in Space Review
The release of a new Third Doctor set is always a reason to celebrate in my eyes, though I’ll admit this opener being a sequel to the fun but quite dull Frontier in Space had me slightly worried. Conspiracy in Space is two episodes shorter and so does manage to keep itself moving forward and generally kept me entertained. Let’s take a closer look!
Continue readingDoctor Who: Dalek Universe 3 – The Dalek Defence / The Triumph of Davros Review
We reach the end of the Dalek Universe strand of stories as The Doctor and Anya end up stuck in the middle of the Movellan / Dalek war and soon meet not only the creator of the Daleks in Davros but meeting the progenitor of the Movellans as well…
Continue readingDoctor Who: Dalek Universe 3 – The First Son Review
It’s time for the final Dalek Universe set and we kick off with a more self-contained story that does at least set up the Davros and Dalek-filled two-part finale while also telling its own tale. Is that tale any good though, that’s the main question and frankly the answer is… It’s alright. Let’s take a look!
Continue readingBernice Summerfield – Missing Persons Review
We reach the end of the “Box Set Era” of Bernice Summerfield (well, the “box sets not called ‘The New Adventures of” era anyway) and after a pretty poor final part to the previous box I wasn’t going into this with a lot of enthusiasm. Did it exceed my expectations? Meet them? Fail to even reach them?! Let’s find out!
Continue readingBernice Summerfield – New Frontiers Review
Before we get to a new long string of main Doctor Who content to sprinkle across my blog I thought I’d quickly fill in two gaps in the “Spin Offs” section, namely the last two Bernice Summerfield boxes and the second and third series of River Song… so two female archaeologists in a row! Aren’t we lucky? When we last left Benny she is still getting used to her new group of allies and trying to reconnect with her dog-like son. Where did she go from there? Let’s find out!
Continue readingProfessor Bernice Summerfield and the Plague Herds of Excelis Review
So here we reach the end of the Excelis story and have the debut of the original Bernice Summerfield series on the blog (don’t expect any more of those any time soon… though I will at least finish the box set era of Benny soon!) What I thought was just an extra tacked onto the trilogy with The Doctor and Greyvorn turns out to be really important as with the return of Iris Wildthyme comes the actual explanation of the mysterious relic and how the planet ends up in ruins… Let’s take a look!
Continue readingDoctor Who: Excelis Decays Review
The final part in this Excelis “Saga” (with one Bernice Summerfield spin-off still to come!) isn’t quite up to the same level as the previous two that came before it. Decays isn’t bad, it’s just not up to the same standard and is a lot more straight forward, and less funny to boot. Oh well! What’s it like overall? Let’s find out!
Continue readingDoctor Who: Excelis Rising Review
The “Excelis Saga” continues with this Sixth Doctor release, set 1,000 years after the first one. While “Dawns” was pure comedy “Rising” is more of a murder mystery with a slight comedic edge. More importantly, is a good story in general? Let’s find out!
