Do you like the endless sound of machine gun fire? How about fading shots of close ups to character’s faces? Well, if you said yes to either, you’ll love The Walking Dead Season 8! Seriously, while this half wasn’t without merit, it was a lot of noise and very little else, which given the subtitle to the season / comic book arc is “All Out War!” isn’t exactly unexpected, but I was still hoping for a bit of drama here and there… Let’s take a closer look anyway!
The big Arrowverse crossover event from this season, “Crisis on Earth-X” lived up to all the potential by delivering a fantastic four hour-ish story full of (really well choreographed and filmed) action, romance, drama and great dialogue between four casts of characters that we’ve all come to care about and their “evil doppelgangers”. It was thrilling and surprisingly emotional ride, so let’s get into it!
The Punisher is a return to form for the MCU’s Netflix division, and one of the best shows I’ve watched all year. It’s uncompromisingly violent, sure, but it also tells a great story, with several characters intertwined in a big conspiracy that gets out of hand. Good plot twists, set pieces and most importantly, great actors/actresses mean this is highly recommended by me, personally. Let’s take a final and overall look at what I hope is the first of many seasons…
The Punisher’s first season comes to suitably brutal end as Frank Castle gets his gory revenge on those who wronged him. Also, other things happen! Let’s take a look at the last four episodes of the season, and see if the ending lives up to the strong rest of the season.
The Punisher’s middle is full of exciting action and a few twists, but most importantly it still focuses on its cast of broken characters and develops them so well. It’s amazing how the portrayal of one event, one period of time has changed so many people in so many different ways. It’s great story telling! Hooray! Let’s take a closer look at the 5th to 9th episodes!
The latest entry into the Netflix side of the MCU has arrived in the form of The Punisher. What I love about both the comics world and this one is how many completely different stories can be told within it, and nothing has exemplified this more than having watched Spider-Man Homecoming a few days ago followed by watching this! So let’s take a look at the beginning of the Punisher’s solo outing, after a great start in the Daredevil Season 2…
The first season (or really the second half of the first season, if including the mini-series) of Battlestar Galactica’s reboot is a good mix of dreary reality and great sci-fi, as well as very hard to write about without giving spoilers for the series as a whole, which I’m trying to avoid… I’m also a bit late with this review due to the amount of new seasons or new shows entirely that have returned or debuted on TV since the start of October, but here we are anyway! Just don’t expect the first half of Season 2 until next year… Right, with that said, Season 1 then!
Stranger Things, the surprise hit of last year, is back for a second go around, and manages to buck the trend of disappointing sequels by delivering a great Season 2. It may not have the “wow, this came out of nowhere!” factor of the original (obviously!) but it still retains great characters, storytelling and fun nods to the time period its set in. Let’s take a closer look!
From fun family adventure to baby neck-snapping, it’s hard to find two series with the same name any more different from each other. My re-watch / review watch of the 2000s Battlestar Galactica feels completely different from my first, not only because of how TV has moved on the decade and a half since, but because of sitting through the original series shortly before watching this. So let’s get started in what will be more infrequent and condensed than the original BSG reviews due to time constraints and the general feeling that a lot has been said on this show compared to the older sci-fi shows I’ve watched / plan to watch… So… Yeah. Mini-series!
Similar to Gotham Season 3, The Expanse Season 2 arrived on the UK Netflix some time after its original US airing, where I gladly binged it over a week or so. Also like Gotham I had planned on doing a more detailed breakdown, but didn’t have the time, so a single overall review it is! The Expanse started off slow, but now in Season 2 it roared forward, and was frequently thrilling to watch. Let’s take a closer look!
