I hold the Soul Society Arc in very high regard, but even I’ll admit this first quarter is a little on the slow side. Now, it’s the beginning, it’s just setting things in motion, so I can’t be too hard on it, but there are one or two moments when the anime team stretch some things out to breaking point, something they thankfully resist as the arc goes on. So with that all being said, let’s take a closer look at the first chunk of Soul Society episodes!

I know I only just covered the end of the first arc of Bleach, but here’s the second volume of the Light Novel series set after the final arc! That’s reviewing for you… Anyway! You read my review HERE. It’s a lengthy tome, especially for something called a “Light Novel”, but there you go…
It’s time to end the year with a not-every-week-but-close look at the Soul Society arc in Bleach… but first I need to finish off the preceding arc that I left with six episodes left to review (which is fairness to my past self, makes sense as these episodes are far more a prologue to the next arc than anything to do with the 14 episodes before it) These six episodes are very important to the series as a whole: we have our first Shinigami vs. Shinigami fight, we’re introduced to the idea of Captains and Lieutenants, we actually see Soul Society, and Ichigo gets his Shinigami powers, including his trademark large butcher knife blade! Does it all work in such a short amount of time? Let’s have a look!

I had no idea what to call this as it was an OVA film that was split into three episodes for the region I’m in, so do I call it “OVA 1”? “Series 1”? “The Complete First Season”? *shrugs* I’ll just call it “Burn The Witch” and worry about it whenever the next one comes out… So, Burn The Witch is a spin-off from Bleach (which coincidentally I’ll be covering a bit more in the coming weeks) focusing on what is eventually revealed as the “Western Branch” of Soul Society who deal with Dragons rather than Hollows. I wanted this to be good so much… *sigh*. So, here we have Jump Force, the latest crossover game featuring characters from Weekly Shonen Jump!, the most popular manga comic in Japan, and publishers of such classics as Dragon Ball, One Piece, Bleach, Death Note and many… many more. With such an endless wealth of things to use and play with, how does a company fail to deliver? Well, let’s find out, shall we!
Some sort of quote relating to ending with a whimper rather than a bang would fit well here… I reviewed the final volume of the Bleach manga for Anime UK News, and it can be found HERE. Ah well… at the last first two and a half arc were great!
