Final Fantasy XVI (PS5) Review

I wasn’t sure about Final Fantasy XVI for a while, I knew I wanted to play it but I wasn’t sold on the visual setting and the more “gritty” style so I waited until it was a bit cheaper and I had the time to dedicate to it. Now I’ve played the game all the way through I have to say that it’s an odd one. There were times when I was thinking of either giving it up or just running through the main missions, then by the end I did every side quest and monster hunt available before hitting that final chapter, so it got its hooks into me at the end, but if someone were to say to me they gave up half way through I’d understand… Want more detail? That’s lucky, I’ve written a whole review, so let’s take a look at it!

Street Fighter 6 (PS5) Review

Street Fighter 6, it’s safe to say, overachieves in its debut, a lesson clearly learned from the poor barebones release of Street Fighter V. Not only does it have a good selection of characters old and new, not only does it have arcade mode, versus, online, and other classic modes but it also has a massive and lengthy single player campaign complete with create-a-fighter facilities and open world elements plus an online hub complete with old arcade games you can play and compete against others on. Out of character in a very good way! Let’s take a more detailed look.

Star Wars – Jedi: Survivor (PS5) Review

As my review of Jedi: Fallen Order will tell you I loved that game, not just the actual gameplay but the story especially, so when Jedi: Survivor was announced I was excited and now it finally arrived I’m happy to say it lived up to expectations, though oddly flipped in that this time round I enjoyed the story but loved the gameplay. So while everyone (including me!) is playing the new Zelda game, allow me to throw up my review of the game I was frantically trying to finish before that game’s release!

Resident Evil 4 Remake (PS5) Review

In my original look at Resident Evil 4 (viewable HERE!) I said that while it was undeniably a great game me at the time didn’t like the weird un-Resi story and all the QTE cutscenes, but either way it was still fun to play. So when RE4 Remake was confirmed I was confused and a little annoyed as Code: Veronica is actually in need of an update unlike 4, but I will say that this Remake is right up there with the RE2 remake as like that it keeps most things the same but updates it (like removing the outdated QTEs!) and looks gorgeous to boot. So let’s take a deeper look!

Hades (PS5) Review

I’m afraid it’s time for another classic example of me finally getting around to something long after all the hype has died down as it’s time to look at what many people classed as their Game of the Year in, um, 2020: Hades. Now I loved Bastion and Transistor, two previous works by Supergiant Games, so I’m not sure why the most highly regarded of them all has taken me so long but at least I can confirm it lived up to the hype and then some! Let’s take a look…

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (PSP) / Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII – Reunion (PS5) Review

Crisis Core is a prequel to Final Fantasy VII that was released alongside the movie “Advent Children” (a sequel to FFVII) in a celebration of the influential game, and I was dead excited. I’m not much of a portable gamer but my PSP got some serious action with this one, but in the end I got stuck on a boss near the end and couldn’t be bothered to grind. Fast forward a decade or two and a remaster arrives on modern consoles, so it was finally time to right a wrong, especially as I’m much more inclined to grind sitting in front of a TV than with a handheld (which is really the wrong way round, but hey-ho…) So let’s take a look at both games, which are actually quite different in the end… Also this is my first PS5 review on this blog, and it’s a remaster of a PSP game… Oh well!

My Top 10 Games of 2022

Another year, another “Top 10 Games” list that I feel the need to stress that I’m aware some great games aren’t on it because I simply haven’t played them. I’m just one man with a blog and a full time job, not a website that gets sent review copies! So I’m sure God of War: Ragnarok should be near or at the top of the list, but I can’t put it on there because I haven’t played it… I have played a lot of games that didn’t get released in 2022 though, including looking at 120 hours + on Super Robot Wars 30 thanks to buying all of its DLC along with the base game… and I’m still not done with it! So let’s look at what 10 games I managed to cobble together this year!
