Doctor Who: Flux – The Vanquishers Review

After five episodes of build up does Chris Chibnall stick the landing?! … *sigh*, no, of course he doesn’t. I thought there were too many spinning plates for all of them to get a satisfying resolution but I didn’t expect practically NONE of them to get any real sense of resolution at all. As the end credits rolled I just wondered why I’d bothered getting invested in anything the past month and a half, and that’s not a great way to leave your audience! Let’s take a closer look then…

Doctor Who: Flux – Survivors of the Flux Review

The fifth part of the Flux storyline feels less like part five and more like part one of a two-part finale as while the other Flux episodes have left things on a cliffhangers they have otherwise felt more standalone than this episode did. That’s not a bad thing but it does remind me why I normally cover two-parters in one review rather than two! Still, lets do our best to look at “Survivors of the Flux” without any knowledge of how these many plot threads will come together…

Doctor Who: Flux – Village of the Angels Review

Flux reaches its fourth chapter and pretty much takes a side-step to tell a new Weeping Angels story, though admittedly does tie it into the overarching narrative right at the end for a cracking cliffhanger. The story by itself though was a pretty entertaining use of the only real “iconic” new villains since the 2005 series return. So let’s take a closer look then!

Doctor Who: Galaxy 4 Review

I don’t know, you wait around for an animated reconstruction of a mostly missing Doctor Who serial and two come along… roughly within a month of each other! Although to be fair to Galaxy 4 it’s no Evil of the Daleks, and not just because it starts William Hartnell’s First Doctor instead of the Second. Yes, this is the first animated Who story that I really didn’t enjoy watching the recon/single episode the first time round and while all four episodes flowing together via animation was a far more enjoyable experience it didn’t help what is a pretty poor story… Let’s take a look!

Doctor Who: Flux – War of the Sontarans Review

War of the Sontarans is 90% a really good stand-alone Sontaran story and 10% a continuation of the Flux story arc, and it works really well! It’s nice seeing the titular potato-headed foes get a classic series inspired makeover and feel like a threat again (while still retaining the absurd humour aspect as well) and while it’s not exactly a flawless episode it was very entertaining! Doctor Who: The Evil of the Daleks Review

It’s that time again! Another mostly missing serial has been given the full animation treatment and this time it’s the seven part Dalek epic “The Evil of the Daleks”, a story that at the time was meant to write the titular aliens out of the show for good. Taking place in then-modern England, Victorian England and the planet Skaro itself it does a lot to justify its runtime, but does it do enough, or does it suffer from obvious padding? Doctor Who: The Web of Fear Review

The Web of Fear was just released on Blu-Ray with a (badly) animated Episode 3, so it’s time to take a look! Web of Fear holds a special place in my heart because pre-2013 it was one of the few stories I really enjoyed despite being almost entirely photo-slide recon and then in 2013 it was discovered whole! (though sadly Episode 3, the episode that features the debut appearance of future Brigadier Allister Lethbridge-Stewart, was nicked before they were picked up…) Watching Web of Fear with just one episode of Recon was great, but what’s it like now, with an … experimental animated Episode 3? Doctor Who: Dragonfire Review

Season 24 dropped on Blu-ray last week so it’s time to review a random story from it. It would’ve been easy to pick Paradise Towers (*shudder*) or Delta and the Bannermen because they’re so obviously… erm, what they are in tone, but I decided instead to look at Dragonfire, which I actually enjoy where as many people don’t. Do I still enjoy it? Did I really pick Dragonfire because I want to put off re-watching Paradise Towers as long as I can?! Let’s find out!
