Surprise! … to even myself really. As I’ve been playing through all the Mario Karts I’ve talked about how this was the only non-arcade Mario Kart I’ve never played due to not owning a 3DS, but guess what happened last month? I brought a New 3DS XL in CeX for just over £100 like new and brought this with it (plus Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days for later review as I get through that series, though that’s an original DS game this has a bigger screen than my old regular DS I’ve used over the years) So before we actually end this look at the Mario Kart series with 8/8 Deluxe, let’s take a look at Mario Kart 7, my first 3DS gaming experience despite the year being 2024…

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (Manga) Review
After three “big” adaptations the Zelda manga reaches some of the lesser-known games for the rest of the run (well, until Twilight Princess, which again I don’t own yet!) starting with Oracle of Seasons. The two Oracle games I knew nothing about until a few years ago when I watched a YouTube video about them, which was then followed by a few more articles and bits when they hit Switch Online last year. While I don’t know if I’ll ever get round to playing them myself let’s see if this Manga re-telling was at least worth my while…
Continue readingLive A Live (Switch) Review
It’s time to play “finally play one of those games that’s been on your backlog for ages”! Yes, Live A Live’s HD2D remake has been on my list for a while, though I only actually finally brought it at the end of last year. The game is essentially a short story collection but instead of prose its short JRPGs spread across different eras of time, from prehistory to the far future, all culminating in a final chapter involving all the protagonists joining forces. Due to this I thought it would be a fun thing to dip in and out of and I was right, though it might be too easy for its own good…
Continue readingThe Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (Manga) Review
Once again with this series it feels very odd to be reviewing the Manga before the game given its rightful position as a bona-fide classic, but there you go. Obviously for a SNES game that isn’t an epic JRPG the original game was quite light on story so the manga is similarly light, even at only four chapters and having added an entirely original character. It’s not bad though! Let’s take a look…
Continue readingSuper Mario Bros. Wonder (Switch) Review
It’s been a long time since I brought a 2D Mario game, mostly due to not liking the visuals of the New Super Mario Bros. series, but Wonder really caught my eye during its announcement trailer due to its much clearer and nicer visuals and its bizarre new “Wonder Flowers” which cause the levels to become very … weird, sometimes in a really fun way. I’ve really enjoyed my time with Wonder, but the strange lack of difficulty in the main game then a sudden spike in the option Special World wasn’t the best game design from the company that normally is so great at it… Let’s take a look, anyway!
Continue readingMario Kart Wii Review
A week or two late but hey-ho, that’s a favourite show’s 60th anniversary for you, it’s time for the next and final older Mario Kart review to coincide with a MK8 Booster Pass DLC release! Mario Kart Wii might be the Mario Kart I’ve played the most despite it being released while I was in my mid-20s and that’s because two different generations of nephews would come round and play on this with me for hours on end, one pair going for the all courses cup every time. So while I played this by myself or with friends less than the previous entries I may well have racked up more time in this one total! So let’s take a look and try our best to ignore the motion controls…
Continue readingF-Zero 99 (Switch) Review
Well, this is the first and most likely only time I’ll ever be reviewing a game just days after its release, but F-Zero 99 isn’t a complex game, it doesn’t have a long end goal but it is addictive as hell and I want to talk about it! So let’s take a look at a new F-Zero game… at long, long last.
Continue readingThe Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask (Manga) Review
I’ll put up my hand and admit that I’ve never given Majora’s Mask a proper go, I didn’t like the timed aspect when I read about it at the time of its release and since then despite hearing how good it is I’ve yet to make time to play through it. So reading the Majora’s Mask manga has been interesting, though admittedly over the many years I do know all the major beats of the story so it wasn’t exactly reading it fresh it was still a different experience to the Ocarina of Time story I reviewed earlier. There’s also a fun original story about the creation of Majora’s Mask that was a good little read added on. So, let’s take a look!
Continue readingDragon Ball: Revenge of King Piccolo (Wii) Review
The only other game I own that’s based on the original Dragon Ball series, “Revenge of King Piccolo” is essentially a Wii version of the previous game, Advanced Adventure, only focused solely on the Red Ribbon and Demon King Piccolo arcs with less modes and playable characters, BUT all in 3D, so… hooray, I guess. I brought it hoping it would be a modernised take on the GBA game but instead found a pretty safe, generic game instead. How does it hold up in 2023? Well, funnily enough, it’s much the same in that it’s a safe, generic action platformer. Let’s take a deeper look anyway… well, as deep as such a shallow game can go anyway!
Continue readingDragon Ball: Advanced Adventure (GBA) Review
I finally figured out how to get through my colossal Dragon Ball game backlog on this site: attach a game review with each movie / TV special review! Amazingly given how many films and specials the combined series has this was only JUST enough. That being said, let’s get the two Dragon Ball games I own out the way before sadly starting the Z games while still reviewing original Dragon Ball films, that’s just how much more popular the Z brand is, and we do that with Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure (which I could’ve sworn was called “Advance Adventure”, but I guess I was misremembering…) I remember just being happy to see a game based on the original series at the time but as it turned out it was far deeper and more addictive than I had anticipated. Let’s see if it still holds up!
