Sapphire and Steel – Assignment 3 Review

Sapphire and Steel A3

Sapphire and Steel continues into the third “assignment” and a new look… for Sapphire at least. This story is… odd. It introduces a new “element” character in Silver and he works well with the main duo, but there is also scenes of a women choking a swan, man-babies who can send you forward or backwards in time by a touch, and some sort of… blob… thing. It was good viewing though! Let’s take a closer look…

Sapphire and Steel – Assignment 1 Review

Sapphire and Steel A1

The next classic bit of sci-fi I’m tackling (because putting distance between me and Galactica 1980 is always a good thing…) takes us back to my home shores with Sapphire and Steel. I’ve heard good things about the show, though mostly about other stories than this first one… which is good because this first story is a mixed bag, and may not have motivated me to continue with the show otherwise (if I weren’t set on covering the whole show for the blog, obviously…) Let’s take a look at “Assignment 1” shall we?

Battlestar Galactica – The Original Series Episodes 19 – 24 Review

BSG TOS P4

My journey through the original Battlestar Galactica comes to an end (well, until I tackle the apparently awful Galactica 1980 at some point…) as I finish off the one solitary season of the show. Oddly the first four episodes (well, three really as 19 and 20 are one story) have a complete lack of Cylons, or indeed robots at all! Still on the plus side Boxey has seemingly been written out, so hooray! Let’s take a closer look at the last four stories of the original Battlestar Galactica…

Blake’s 7 – Audio Series 3 “The Spoils of War” Review

B7 AS3

Blake’s 7’s (that’s an annoying this to write, visually…) audio series continues, and thanks to getting into the series less than a year ago, I haven’t had to wait! Hooray! “Series 3” is actually just a single boxset of four stories, where as the next series with be three boxsets! Well… whatever! Let’s take a look at “The Spoils of War”, which contains a recasting of Dayna, with Yasmin Bannerman taking over the role… which is good news after the awkwardness of Audio Series 2…

Battlestar Galactica – The Original Series Episodes 14 – 18 Review

BSG TOS P3

My first watch through of the original Battlestar Galactica series continues with the third quarter of episodes. We have a fun and varied batch here, with some good, often safe, stories to tell… apart from War of the Gods, a two-parter that deals with literal races of angel-like beings and the devil… More can be found below!

Blake’s 7 Audio Series 2 Episodes 1 – 3 Review

B7 AD S2 P1

With “Series 3” (a.k.a. a single box set called “The Spoils of War”) coming out soon, I finish playing catch up with Big Finish’s Blake’s 7 Full Cast audio dramas by dashing through Series 2, which for the record, is set during the TV series’ 3rd Series… Got it? Good. The plot revolves around Dayna being missing due to Josette Simon not wanting to return to playing the character. Oh, also, Del Grant from the 2nd Series TV episode “Countdown” is currently part of the crew, which is something that happened in the audio book range “The Liberator Chronicles” that I haven’t listened to, so I was rather baffled during the first episode… Anyway! Let’s have a look at the first half!

Battlestar Galactica – The Original Series Episodes 8 – 13 Review

BSG TOS P2

My first watch of the original series continues, and it’s amazing how one show can shift tones so quickly and jarringly as this. Seriously, from the comedy of Episode 10, the children’s TV-ness of Episode 11 and the great and seriously toned space opera of Episodes 12 and 13, it’s a complete mish-mash! Still, some great stuff to be watched, though.

Battlestar Galactica – The Original Series Episodes 1 – 7 Review

BSG OS1

I was going to do my first ever re-watch of the 2000s remake, but then I thought it would be more fun to watch the original series first, then go into the remake with a whole new perspective from when I first saw it. The original series couldn’t be any more 70s if it tried, and is extremely… Star Wars-y, but it does have some originality and a few plus points. Let’s take a closer look (on Blu-Ray no less!)
