Doctor Who: Galaxy 4 Review

I don’t know, you wait around for an animated reconstruction of a mostly missing Doctor Who serial and two come along… roughly within a month of each other! Although to be fair to Galaxy 4 it’s no Evil of the Daleks, and not just because it starts William Hartnell’s First Doctor instead of the Second. Yes, this is the first animated Who story that I really didn’t enjoy watching the recon/single episode the first time round and while all four episodes flowing together via animation was a far more enjoyable experience it didn’t help what is a pretty poor story… Let’s take a look!

The Diary of River Song: Series 9 “New Recruit” – Never Alone & Rivers of Light Review

The second half of River Song’s ninth series is like a reverse of the previous half, instead of a good story and a forgettable one involving a false reality this one starts with a forgettable one involving a false reality and ends on a good story. The good story itself features the Third Doctor arriving and has a good bit of interaction between himself and River, which is good fun. Want to know more? Read on!

Doctor Who: Flux – War of the Sontarans Review

War of the Sontarans is 90% a really good stand-alone Sontaran story and 10% a continuation of the Flux story arc, and it works really well! It’s nice seeing the titular potato-headed foes get a classic series inspired makeover and feel like a threat again (while still retaining the absurd humour aspect as well) and while it’s not exactly a flawless episode it was very entertaining! The Diary of River Song: Series 9 “New Recruit” – The Blood Woods & Terror of the Suburbs Review

After having grown disinterested in the Diary of River Song series (mostly when it stopped featuring Doctors, I only have so much money to spend on Doctor Who Audio Dramas!) I’ve jumped back in with Series 9, dubbed “New Recruit” because it features River arriving in Season 7 era Who and joining up with The Brig and Liz Shaw in place of The Doctor (although he does appear in the final episode…) Given this is among my favourite time periods of the show I can say I was really looking forward to it. I was of two minds about how to cover Doctor Who’s thirteenth series (since the revival) as it’s being billed as one six-part story titled “Flux”. The release of a new Third Doctor set is always a reason to celebrate in my eyes, though I’ll admit this opener being a sequel to the fun but quite dull Frontier in Space had me slightly worried.
