It’s time to cover the fourth, final and titular story in the “Mistress of Chaos” collected release… “Mistress of Chaos”! The story covers quite a bit of ground and is highly connected to the first two stories of this graphic novel, making it feel close to the old Eighth Doctor “story arc in a graphic novel” format, though admittedly not anywhere near the heights of those… which few are, to be fair! So how does Mistress of Chaos stand on its own? Let’s find out!

The third of the four stories from “Mistress of Chaos” funnily enough features the Mobox, who made two major appearances in the past, both during the Eighth Doctor DWM run, the same run I’m currently covering on-and-off here at the moment! After Josiah Dogbolter’s daughter appearing in the first story it’s odd to see two examples of DWM bringing back their continuity so close together, given they normally just save it for big occasions. Is it any good, though? That’s the more relevant question!

As predicted, even though the original run of four stories formed a nice circular whole, the War Master range proved so popular that it returns not long after it last appeared. “Hearts of Darkness” is another hand-wavey encounter between the War Master and the Eighth Doctor (presumably set before their other encounter, which ends in a mind wipe) but it instead brings up an old sci-fi cliché with interesting results. The Fifth Doctor lost stories rocket on then, as we get a very of-era story set on an alien world that has coincidentally copied Tudor London for their city, which would’ve been handy at the time for existing sets and costumes! The first half of Shadow of the Daleks is here! … What is it? It’s… well, it’s something that has come into being thanks to the Pandemic. It’s a series of eight half hour stories where the Fifth Doctor has accidentally found himself feeling the effects of the Time War his future selves are fighting, and as a result is meeting the same few faces in very different locations. Basically, two Main Range audio slots had to be removed and so they came up with a way to make new ones by re-using the same few actors/actresses who have good enough at-home recording set-ups. Does it work though? Hmmm… it’s a mixed bag…
