The next set of Ninth Doctor Adventures goes from Earth-based to space-based, putting a title on … well, what Doctor Who does all the time anyway. Getting a new Eight Doctor and Charley story is always special for me, they were the lead duo I loved listening to when I first got into Big Finish Doctor Who audio, but I have to say this next story in “Classic Doctors, New Monsters: The Stuff of Nightmares” was disappointing. I get where they went with it and it was well written and performed but I just didn’t get on with it for most of its runtime… Want to know more? Read on!

Continuing to look at the third “Classic Doctors, New Monsters” set titled “The Stuff of Nightmares” with the first of two stories that feature the “Dream Crabs” that feed off human brains while stimulating dreams for them as they do so. It was a fun (and obviously horrifying) concept for the Twelfth Doctor Christmas story they came from, but do the creatures work a second time round in the excellently titled “Together in Eclectic Dreams”? The second story in “Classic Doctors, New Monsters: The Stuff of Nightmares” is once again not anything of nightmares, instead it’s the Tivolians, the race from the Eleventh Doctor era that is infamous for have no backbone to the point where they’re happy to be conquered by invading races. A funny concept and they fit well into a Fourth Doctor story (though maybe a bit later in his run?) but that’s two in the row that doesn’t live up the subtitle, meaning it’s literally referring to the creatures in the last two tales… Anyway, let’s have a look at this one!

We kick off the latest (and it’s been a while!) “Classic Doctors, New Monsters” set with what is really a “Classic Doctor, New Setting” story, as the “monster” in this story is actually a relatively nice person, just his race happened to have debuted in what is still dubbed the New Series (even though the story his race first appeared in is now 17 years old!). Anyway, it’s a new Third Doctor and Sarah Jane story, so… hooray! Let’s take a look.

Now the new status quo has been created for this “Season 6B” Doctor run we plunge head-first into… an admittedly fun run-around with the Ice Warriors and the Brigadier on Earth. The War Master returns and this time he encounters David Tennant’s Doctor in a really top-class final episode. What about the three episodes leading up to it? As usual a mixed bag, but overall I enjoyed the set. I mean, Mr. Jacobi could read me the phone book and I’d be entertained, as the old phrase goes… Let’s take a look!

The next, and final (for now…) release in the makeshift-titled “Out of Time” range sees the Tenth Doctor end up encountering his Sixth self, but unlike the previous two stories this was actually a great stand-alone Weeping Angels story that happens to feature two Doctors, where as the other two stories felt they were very much created just around the concept of it being a multi-Doctor story.
