The Defenders – Episodes 1 – 3 Review

Defenders P1

It’s finally here! When the MCU Netflix slate was announced I really liked the idea of a “street level” Avengers set up, but it kind of got lost in amongst the great first two seasons of Daredevil and season 1 of Jessica Jones, three TV seasons I consider some of the best I’ve seen. Luke Cage was good, and Iron Fist was average at best, so the past year or so I’ve started looking forward to The Defenders again, and so far it hasn’t disappointed. Thanks to all episodes being released at once the first two and a bit episodes are pretty much entirely set up, seeing what the various characters have (or haven’t) been doing since we last saw them, before the four finally meeting at the end of Episode 3. So let’s take a look at this first chunk of story, shall we?

Sapphire and Steel – Assignment 5 Review

Sapphire and Steel A5

Sapphire and Steel’s fifth “Assignment” is … odd. It’s more quaint 30s murder mystery than it is anything resembling the show as its been presented in the past four stories. That being said, it did have some nice sci-fi twists in it, but in the end it was just annoying, with stereotypical posh dinner guests and all that bollocks taking up more screen time. It’s just not my thing, and for that I wasn’t a massive fan. Let’s take a look in more detail…

Sapphire and Steel – Assignment 4 Review

Sapphire and Steel A4

Sapphire and Steel’s fourth “Assignment” is a great example of how sometimes a shorter runtime can really help. This is only four episodes, rather than the previous stories being either six or eight, and it rolls along at a great pace. Still retains the spooky atmosphere and keeps you guessing, but doesn’t hang about too much. Let’s take a closer look, shall we?! …. Yes. Yes we shall.

Sapphire and Steel – Assignment 3 Review

Sapphire and Steel A3

Sapphire and Steel continues into the third “assignment” and a new look… for Sapphire at least. This story is… odd. It introduces a new “element” character in Silver and he works well with the main duo, but there is also scenes of a women choking a swan, man-babies who can send you forward or backwards in time by a touch, and some sort of… blob… thing. It was good viewing though! Let’s take a closer look…

Game of Thrones – Season 7 Episodes 1 – 3 Review

GOT S7 P1

Game of Thrones returns for it’s penultimate season, with only seven episodes (though by all accounts the last two will be near-or-actually feature length) and so far, so good! The main thing is seeing all these individual storylines that have played out far away from each other the past six seasons start to come together. Characters that have never met before meet for the first time, and old allies re-find each other. It’s very rewarding viewing! Plus, plenty of battles and all that usual jazz. Let’s take a closer look!

Battlestar Galactica – The Original Series Episodes 19 – 24 Review

BSG TOS P4

My journey through the original Battlestar Galactica comes to an end (well, until I tackle the apparently awful Galactica 1980 at some point…) as I finish off the one solitary season of the show. Oddly the first four episodes (well, three really as 19 and 20 are one story) have a complete lack of Cylons, or indeed robots at all! Still on the plus side Boxey has seemingly been written out, so hooray! Let’s take a closer look at the last four stories of the original Battlestar Galactica…

Castlevania – Season 1 Overall Review

Castlevania S1

One of the weirder Netflix original shows to spring up, this animated series based on Castlevania (specifically Castlevania III) was an enjoyable watch, though it did suffer from needless gore and swearing in the first two episodes (reminded me of the old Manga Entertainment anime from the 90s, for those who know what I’m going on about…) the latter two were very entertaining. I don’t know if four 25-minute episodes can be called a season, but either way: let’s take a closer look!
