Gyromite technically doesn’t star R.O.B., no game did until Mario Kart DS, but it was one of the two games that actually worked with the peripheral that now stars in the Smash Series, so it makes sense. Now, let’s take a look at this simple little puzzle game…
When my friend first asked me if I was buying Animal Crossing like he was, I honestly didn’t know anything about it. I looked it up and saw some screenshots and my initial thought was “Erm… no.”, but then I read about it, about the game’s randomly generated villagers and how it uses the internal clock to simulate what time of day, month and year it was. Sounded quite fun… then when I got it, the addiction began. While I sadly couldn’t take any screenshots of my actual Gamecube copy (that is now 90% overgrown grass anyway) let’s take a look at the game overall…

That’s why I chose it for the 60s entry in the “Sci-Fi films I haven’t seen” decades marathon. It’s another one of those “seen it parodied so much I wanted to see the original” kind of things. We reach another game I was always going to feature on this blog eventually, as it’s a personal favourite of mine. Punch-Out!! (yes, I missed out on the Mike Tyson version) was one of the few NES games I was actually good at, being so young at the time, and it remains incredibly fun and playable today. So let’s take a look!
Well, when I started this blog I don’t think I ever saw a time when I’d review Wii Sports, but that’s this Smash Ultimate Countdown for ya! Yes, this was all I could think of to match with the Mii fighters in that game, but it makes sense. This game’s only characters are Miis, and the menu theme is in the game! (I assume it’s still in, anyway…) So let’s take a look at this hot-selling “classic”, shall we?

While part of me thinks it was a bit too soon after Rosa for Doctor Who to do another historical that focused on racial prejudice and related issues, Demons of the Punjab managed to outdo Rosa in the storytelling stakes and delivered a really interesting drama, with a bit of Who alien-related stuff around it (so we’re still not in pure historical land just yet…) So let’s take a look at the story and see just why it took me by surprise…
“Why aren’t you reviewing the original Arcade game?” I hear you cry. Well, much like a later game on this list, I chose this version so I can both talk about a memory of playing it when I was young, and so I can finally get a game on a console that currently has “Coming Soon” listed on its blog page… So, yeah, Pac-Man! He’s gaming’s first icon, and I was thrilled to see him arrive in Smash Wii U and face off with Mario and Sonic, but Pac-Man Atari 2600? Yeah… it’s, retrospectively, not very good…
