New irregular Doctor Who Marathon in-coming!

DW Announcement

Small update: Now the Titan Comics coverage has come to an end (well, for now, I’ll get to the more recent ones soon) I couldn’t decide between the Big Finish Lost Stories range and the DWM Eighth Doctor comics in terms of older Doctor Who stuff to cover, so I’ve decided to do both! Yes, over the coming months you’ll see either a Lost Story or a DWM Eighth Doctor comic review pop up from time to time, never enough to dominate the blog, and always taking a back seat to newly released Who, but they’ll be there, and in this order:

Doctor Who: Stranded 1 – Must-See TV & Divine Intervention Review

DW Stranded 1 Part 2

With the cast and setting firmly established, it’s time to start teasing a longer narrative for the story arc (beyond being “stranded” obviously!) while still having fun with the new regulars. On both these counts the second half of Stranded 1 does exactly that, making for fun stories that also tease more to come. Want more info? Read on!

Doctor Who: Stranded 1 – Lost Property & Wild Animals Review

DW Stranded 1 Part 1

Well, as advertised, the new Eighth Doctor storyline gets off to a rather… slow start. Stranded on Earth once again but with no UNIT to distract him, The Doctor, along with Liv and Helen, have to try and blend in with regular life in (a mysteriously COVID free) 2020 London. Does Doctor Who work in a contemporary and sometimes completely alien free setting? Let’s find out!

Doctor Who: The Eight Doctors Review

DW The Eight Doctors

Here we go then! Having brought a kindle and starting to get into the habit of reading a bit before I go to bed, I thought I’d dip into some of the books relating to some of my favourite franchises here and there (probably more there than here, admittedly), and where better to start than with Doctor Who! Sadly, there are a LOT of better books to start with by all accounts, but I’ve had my eye on reading this for many, many years, and despite going into it knowing it won’t be very good, I wanted to finally get that “monkey” off my back. Plus this means I can add a “Books” section to each of the first Eight Doctor’s pages! Hooray! Let’s take a closer look then!

Doctor Who: The Lost Dimension Review

DW The Lost Dimension

So Titan Comics’ Year Three comes to an end with a massive crossover storyline, as they tend to do. Last year’s crossover was something of a disappointment, but what about this year? Does throwing every Doctor at the thing until something sticks the best way to go about it? Can they have an entity called a “White Hole” without quoting the classic Red Dwarf episode?! Let’s find out!

Doctor Who: Time Trials – A Confusion of Angels Review

DW TT A Confusion of Angels

So the previous story had three returning elements and was a bit too much… so let’s go with FOUR. Five if you include Missy (though she was more of a regular cast member during the TV series this is set in, so I can let that pass). While the previous story still managed to be fun, is this just too much? Was there any reason to have the Heavenly Host do battle with the Weeping Angels other than the fact they both angel themes? Let’s find out!

Doctor Who: Time Trials – The Terror Beneath Review

DW TT The Terror Beneath

We enter the final straight in Titan Comics’ Year Three, with just three 12th Doctor books and the crossover to go. “Time Trials”, unlike the 10th and 11th Doctor runs this year, is a subtitle that means… nothing. In fact the three books from Year Three for Mr. Capaldi are all entirely standalone, as well as thankfully very good! In fact the opening story of this Graphic Novel had art that blew me away. So let’s take a look at it!

Doctor Who: The Sapling Review

DW The Sapling

Man… this was a slog to get through. So much so that I don’t want to drag it out across three reviews, so I’m merging the Eleventh Doctor’s Third Year Titan Comics into one review. Luckily it does have a core plot through it, enough that I can easily review it as one story, even if there are a few stand-alone single issue stories here and there. So, why didn’t I enjoy this run of comics? See below to find out!

Doctor Who: Scorched Earth Review

DW Scorched Earth

The main range continues to plough forward with the next Sixth Doctor / Constance / Flip story, and boy it’s a dozy. Scorched Earth takes place in France just after its liberation, in other words Constance’s near future, and so this story really explores the differences between Constance from the 1940s and Flip from the 2010s. Throw in some soldiers on all sides of the war and a fiery alien and you’ve got a hit on your hands! Let’s take a closer look.
