Doctor Who: Back to Earth – Station to Station & The False Dimitry Review

Ignoring the obvious joke about having a boxset titled “Back to Earth” when most of the Ninth Doctor’s audio run so far has been entirely set ON Earth (including the previous two-part finale) let’s take a look at the first two stories of Mr. Eccleston’s second audio drama run, shall we?

Doctor Who: Mind of the Hodiac Review

Mind of the Hodiac is an interesting curio, it’s not a “Lost Story” in any way that the sub series has explored before, instead it’s a piece of fan fiction that Russell T. Davies wrote as a teenager that he found in a drawer. Admittedly given RTD’s contributions to Doctor Who having what is essentially his first script turned into a story is a fun idea, but it’s still not exactly fitting in with the Lost Stories theme. Still, is it any good? Well erm… not really? Let’s take a look!

Doctor Who: Stranded 4 – The Keys of Baker Street & Best Year Ever Review

The Stranded run of Eighth Doctor stories reaches its conclusion… I was going to put “epic conclusion” but that wouldn’t be right, for better or worse. Without giving too much away the key plot point of Stranded gets resolved in the “The Keys of Baker Street” and what we have for a finale is a rather more tame epilogue that I’ll be honest didn’t really work for me. Want to know more? Read on!

Doctor Who: Stranded 4 – Crossed Lines & Get Andy Review

The often divisive Stranded sub-series reaches its final phase and with a set that is no less divisive, though most of that comes in the second half. As for these first two episodes? Well, they continue the time and alternate Earth shenanigans with The Doctor, his companions, his neighbours and a near-immortal time-travelling moody teenager / evil despot named Robin. Let’s take a look!

Doctor Who: The Cold Equations Review

For this run of stories I was going to take a look at the Sarah Kingdom trilogy (also by Simon Guerrier) but then I remembered I’d started the Oliver Harper trilogy in the Audio/Comic debut marathon, so it made sense to finish that off instead… so here we are! The Cold Equations is the middle of the three stories (obviously) and focuses on more on character development for both Steven and Oliver, with the latter’s “big secret” being revealed…

Doctor Who: Old Friends – Way of the Burryman / The Forth Generation Review

This two part story manages to tick several boxes here, not just being a really good two-parter for the Ninth Doctor, not just a story where the Ninth Doctor meets the Brigadier, but also a more traditional Cyberman story for Mr. Eccleston after the admittedly great but very unusual one we got in the last set. While it’s not perfect, for example I have no interest in the Sam Bishop character that’s presented here like it’s a long awaited bit of backstory, but overall it’s a really enjoyable two hours. Let’s take a closer look!

Doctor Who: Old Friends – Fond Farewell Review

The last of the… current series? Sort of? … Erm, of the Ninth Doctor audio dramas has arrived and it’s neatly split into a single episode and a two-part finale, though I will say that the finale will have a lot to live up to as this story, “Fond Farewell”, was great. Well written, acted and felt extremely of-era, there’s a lot to like, so let’s take a look!

Doctor Who: The Annihilators Review

I was so excited when I heard they were doing a new seven-part full cast story set in Season 7, then I found out Nicholas Briggs was writing it and I got downhearted as his big boxset releases recently haven’t been … well, very good to be frank. Then I heard they were adding a newly recast Second Doctor played by Patrick Troughton’s son Michael into the mix and I was just … confused. Well, I’m thrilled to report that despite all this I really enjoyed the story! Mr. Briggs pulls one out of the bag at the right time for me personally (well, maybe the first ever Ninth Doctor set would’ve been a better time to do it, but hey-ho…) and even the multi-Doctor part was fun. So let’s take a look at “The Annihilators”, shall we?

Doctor Who: Peladon – The Death of Peladon & The Truth of Peladon Review

The second half of Big Finish’s Peladon boxset is far more straight forward in that they very much feel like stand-alone Sixth and Eighth Doctor stories that just happen to be set on Peladon. They also take place further in the planet’s timeline than we’ve ever gone before, which is something I was hoping for from the boxset but didn’t get in the first half. So… let’s take a look!
