Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Arc (Episodes 1 – 13) Review

While it already feels like I’ve reviewed this 100 times due to covering it on Anime UK News for various articles, it’s time to actually take a deeper dive into the first chunk of the anime adaptation of Bleach’s final story arc (for now!): The Thousand Year Blood War. I’ve gone on record as saying the actual manga version of the story is … not great, but given the crazy animation quality plus the amazing returning voice cast and music composer this was a great weekly watch. Let’s take a look!

Doctor Who: The Crusade Review

Due to life getting in the way of things I haven’t really left the black and white era of TV Who on this blog and yet here we are back reviewing a Hartnell story thanks to the release of Season 2 on Blu-ray. Once again I decided to go with the story that I haven’t seen in the longest time and so that meant “The Crusade”, mainly because half of it is missing and it’s just not an interesting enough story to want to watch through a photo recon of half of it. This is only the second time I’ve watched it and third overall experiencing it despite being such a big fan of the show for so many years (I listened to the soundtrack only at one point to see if it helped…). Does this admittedly better recon job help, or is it still just… not very good? Let’s find out!

My Top 10 Games of 2022

Another year, another “Top 10 Games” list that I feel the need to stress that I’m aware some great games aren’t on it because I simply haven’t played them. I’m just one man with a blog and a full time job, not a website that gets sent review copies! So I’m sure God of War: Ragnarok should be near or at the top of the list, but I can’t put it on there because I haven’t played it… I have played a lot of games that didn’t get released in 2022 though, including looking at 120 hours + on Super Robot Wars 30 thanks to buying all of its DLC along with the base game… and I’m still not done with it! So let’s look at what 10 games I managed to cobble together this year!

My Top 10 Doctor Who Stories of 2022

Another year with Doctor Who barely on TV (which is still better than all the years it wasn’t on TV at all, but still…) so once again this list is heavy on the Big Finish audio side, though it’s also heavy on the more modern Who side due to the switch to boxset format not going too well for Doctors 6 and 7, quality-wise. Still who’d have thought Christopher Eccelston’s Ninth Doctor would appear so frequently on a list from any year other than 2005? (not that this blog was here to make this list then, but you know what I mean…) Great stuff. Let’s take a look and hope Russell T. Davies’ return to showrunner will make the next few year’s lists a bit more interesting, though Mr. Chibnall’s run may end on a higher note than it frankly deserves…

My Top 10 TV Series/Seasons of 2022

What a fun year for TV it’s been for me. Star Wars has had hit after hit (for different reasons) throughout 2022 and services like Netflix and Amazon Prime unleashed some big hitters in my field of view as well. Throw in some good Anime seasons and this year has been one of the rare ones where some good series have been left off due to having to do just 10, which is great, so honourable mentions to stuff like Umbrella Academy S3, which was still a lot of fun; She-Hulk which was half genuinely funny but half “not really my cup of tea”; Gundam: Witch From Mercury has had some great set up and character development but yet to really get going; and the final two thirds of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, which had an amazing finale but was pretty standard up to the that point… Let’s take a look at which made it!

Die Hard 2: Die Harder Review

Twas the night… after Christmas and John McClane is having to deal with terrorists again! It’s time to look at the second Die Hard film and the only other one to be once again set on Christmas Eve. While nowhere near as iconic and fun as the first, nor as entertaining and original as the third, Die Hard 2 is still a fun two hours that does mix some original elements in amongst sadly far too much copying of the first film. Let’s take a look!

Die Hard Review

Twas the night before Christmas, and all throughout the house not a creature was stirring, except… Terrorists taking over Nakatomi Plaza, naturally! Yes although I didn’t manage to look at all five films and the three games I wanted to over Christmas I still wanted to cover the original and its sequel at least given their setting, getting to the others next year; so let’s start unsurprisingly with the first one! Die Hard is one of those classics that deserves every bit of praise that has come its way, both for being a great film itself and for how much it influenced pop culture in the years since. So while I won’t be adding anything new to the long list of reviews this film has racked up, I’ll be adding to it regardless!

Doctor Who: Sullivan & Cross – AWOL: Scream of the Daleks Review

The second half of the Sullivan and Cross: AWOL box sees the “has met the Daleks” box ticked for Naomi as the classic deadly pepper pots once again cross paths with The Doctor. There is a bit more of an interesting twist but really it’s a rather flat two-parter, making for something of a rather flat boxset overall. Let’s take a look!

Doctor Who: Sullivan & Cross – AWOL: London Orbital Review

This is a strange boxset. It sees the Seventh Doctor come across Harry Sullivan and a female UNIT member called Naomi Cross in the near-present day because the Fourth Doctor dropped them off in the wrong time. What makes this weird is that story hasn’t been released yet due to the nature of how far in advance Tom Baker’s stories are so this is picking up from a cliffhanger we’ve yet to hear! Thankfully a conversation between the two catch us up pretty quick anyway. As for the story itself? A bit too fantasy for my liking, something that’s becoming something of a theme for Big Finish Who releases recently… Let’s take a look!

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Review

The Second “holiday themed” TV special for the MCU and this time it’s a good old fashioned Christmas Special with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Admittedly while “Werewolf by Night” was a good standalone special this feels like a very light bit of humour more in the line of an extra or bonus feature. Still, tis the season to be mildly amused! Let’s take a look… Not that it’ll take long!
