Doctor Who: The Light at the End Review

We hit our first offical 50th anniversary story of this catch-up marathon (remembering that Day of the Doctor has already been reviewed…) as well as our first non-comic review and it’s Big Finish’s well advertised multi-Doctor story “The Light at the End”, the story that made me lose a lot of respect for Nick Briggs after he showed no interest in writing the multi-Doctor story until Tom Baker wanted to be in it, then he claimed the story had “his name written all over it”, and boy-oh-boy, it does have his name all over it, but not in a good way, more in a “this clearly didn’t get checked over by anyone else because he’s in charge” way. It has its moments, mostly Paul McGann and Tom Baker making a fun duo, but thank goodness the TV series delivered a fun multi-Doctor story for the 50th instead… Let’s take a closer look, anyway…

Doctor Who: Dead Man’s Hand Review

I’ll be honest here and say I very nearly forgot about this one completely as I think of “The Prisoner of Time” (coming soon!) as IDW’s 50th anniversary story, but this was released actually during the 50th itself rather than in the run up to it so it also features some multi-Doctor action, albeit in a “barely counts but why not?” way. Also the story itself has plenty of fun Western tropes and some historical celebrities to boot, so let’s take a look!

Doctor Who: Four Doctors Review

“Four Doctors” (because “The Four Doctors” had already been used, that’ll be a while before that appears in this marathon, mind you!) was the first Titan Comics crossover event and without a doubt the best, written and released at the height of their run, where the Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth Doctors all had successful runs of at least good if not great stories. It had been ages since I read this last so I’d forgotten some of the odd plot twists and really enjoyed them all over again. Intrigued? Well, why not read the rest of the review!

Doctor Who: Empire of the Wolf Review

Ending this little trilogy of Titan comics multi-Doctor crossovers we have two different Doctors crossing over in the Eleventh and the Eighth but the alternate timeline Rose that was created in the previous story is a central character, which is why I felt these needed to be put up one after another rather than reverse release order like most of the rest of this marathon. Also I want to point out that this story was advertised as celebrating 25 years of the Eighth Doctor but honestly about 90% of the story is Rose/Tenth Doctor/Eleventh Doctor stuff, so… great. Oh well, let’s take a look!

Doctor Who: Alternating Current Review

Day two of the Multi-Doctor catch up marathon and it’s another Tenth / Thirteenth Doctor crossover, and weirdly it follows on from the last one from the perspective of Doctor 13 but the Tenth she encounters is from a different point in his timeline, so we get a repeat of the earlier Doctor meeting 13 for the first time from his perspective scene (due to the whole earlier incarnations not remembering multi-Doctor stories thing) Ah well, either way it’s another quick four-issue jaunt though this time its more heavily connected to an actual Thirteenth Doctor TV story rather than a Tenth, so that’s … something! Let’s take a look…

Doctor Who: A Little Help From My Friends Review

It’s time to kick off this multi-Doctor catch up marathon with a bunch of Titan comics due to going in reverse release order and Titan just having a thing with multi-Doctor stories, including two different 10th / 13th crossovers that partially lead into an 8th / 11th one, so for the sake of a better flow I’ll review these in story order rather than release order. “A Little Help From My Friends” is a rather amusing title given it was basically “the Thirteenth Doctor comics aren’t selling well so let’s stick the most popular Doctor in with her”. Is the story better with a little help from her past self? Not really, no. They even threw in the Weeping Angels AND the Autons and yet it still isn’t terribly engaging. Let’s take a look anyway!
