Sometimes films can be great ways to tell stories but other times you’re left wanting a bit more behind the characters and story, and in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero’s case… I wasn’t really left with that feeling. Hey-ho, I also wasn’t going to say no to this Manga version adding a larger focus on Trunks and Goten as teenagers as a prologue, and the extra couple of chapters worth of epilogue was good fun too, but the actual adaptation in the middle was nearly entirely just that: a straight adaptation. Obviously now that Akira Toriyama has passed the manga has gone on hiatus with no idea whether Toyotarou will continue the series without his idol’s story guidance it might be the end of the series entirely, and in that sense it does end on a very pleasant note. Let’s take a look!

Mega Man 11 (PC) Review
A couple of years ago on this website I decided to use the Mega Man collections to finally play through “all ten” original Mega Man games, and although it was often hard (and in a frustrating way a lot of time rather a fun way) I did it! … just in time for Mega Man 11 to get released. It’s taken me a while to gather up the courage to do another Mega Man playthrough but a recent Humble Bundle gave me this game on Steam at a crazy price, so I thought I may as well finally be able to say “I’ve completed all core numbered Mega Man games”, at least until Mega Man 12 is revealed shortly after this goes up, probably… Let’s take a look!
Continue readingDoctor Who: Sontarans vs. Rutans – Born to Die Review
The next Sontarans vs. Rutans story has a lot in common with the first one as it also uses a Doctor / companion combination we haven’t heard from in a long long time, in this case the Sixth Doctor and Charley, back when she thought the Eighth Doctor was dead and ended up travelling with an earlier incarnation. This works out well as she now has prior knowledge of Sontarans and Rutans so the whole “she can’t let on how she knows this stuff” plot works well. How is it in general though? Well, let’s take a look!
Continue readingX-Men: The Animated Series – Season 5 Review
With one day to spare it’s time to end our look at the original run of X-Men: The Animated Series before its sequel series, X-Men 97, airs its first two episodes. Sadly while Season 4 ended the show on a high note this all-of-a-sudden fifth season craps the bed, especially when we reach Episode 5 and the animation and sound quality take a nosedive. Oh well, let’s take a look anyway…
Continue readingOne Piece – Return to Saboady Arc (Episodes 517 – 522) Review
At just six episodes long the “Return to Sabaody Arc” is pretty much just a reintroduction to the Straw Hat crew, revealing their post two-year time skip looks before moving on to the first proper story arc in the New World, which um… yeah, I’ll get to that next time. That doesn’t mean the arc doesn’t have some merits though, and certainly some future arcs could’ve learned a lesson about being more concise, but there you go. Let’s take a look!
Continue readingDoctor Who: Worlds Beyond Review
The “Storm of the Sea Devils” boxset concludes with this entirely Sea Devil-less two parter that more than most stories really suffers from not having its own cover… Well, anyway, as with a lot of the under-one-hour stories there isn’t a lot of time to get know new characters which is why this story very cleverly focused almost entirely on the TARDIS team themselves. Let’s have a look…
Continue readingFinal Fantasy XV: The Dawn of the Future Review
When being in a Final Fantasy mood in the run up to Rebirth coincided with having a gap in my “book to read in bits before bed like some sort of old man” schedule I decided to give this Final Fantasy XV book a go after a reader commented about it (which was handy because I completely forgot it existed!) “The Dawn of the Future” is actually a novelisation of the final DLC story, “Episode Ardyn” as well as the three that were planned to come after it but were cancelled. What’s interesting is those three comprise a “What if?” scenario that leads to a completely different ending, giving the whole book a unique feel, though if you’re not already a fan of XV it’s safe to say you’ll be lost! So let’s take a look…
Continue readingX-Men: The Animated Series – Season 4 Episodes 13 – 21 Review
My review of the first half of the Season can be found by clicking HERE.
X-Men’s animated series reaches what was clearly meant to be its conclusion with a four-part epic at the end of this season, the fact a fifth season was suddenly greenlit sadly only giving us a weaker actual finale, but that’s for next time (and I guess technically it’s now also not the actual finale?) Either way even the episodes leading up the final story were good as well, giving us an overall really strong Season. Let’s take a look, shall we?
Continue readingDoctor Who: Storm of the Sea Devils Review
This year’s Fourth Doctor series finally gives us the debut of the Harry Sullivan / Naomi Cross duo that has had adventures after their time with the Fourth Doctor already released, thanks to the Fourth Doctor stuff being banked so far in advance. In their further adventures I’ve been critical of Naomi being really plain and her actress not emoting very well, and unsurprisingly I can’t say she started off great and got worse, let’s put it that way. Oh well, what about the rest of the story? Let’s find out!
Continue readingRed Dwarf XI Review
Red Dwarf XI and XII are an odd one, as they don’t have the “wow Red Dwarf is back!” feel of X and frankly don’t have the mostly good-to-great writing of X either, and while neither series falls as low as VIII they stand out so little that my rewatch for this review at times felt like I was watching them for the first time because I remembered so little about them. Well, with that said, let’s take a look at XI and see what, if anything, stands out!
