My first watch of the original series continues, and it’s amazing how one show can shift tones so quickly and jarringly as this. Seriously, from the comedy of Episode 10, the children’s TV-ness of Episode 11 and the great and seriously toned space opera of Episodes 12 and 13, it’s a complete mish-mash! Still, some great stuff to be watched, though.
I wasn’t sure whether or not to do an overall review for this season of Agents of SHIELD. It was perfectly segmented into three arcs, with each having been covered in separate reviews on this site, but there are over-arcing themes and plots that can be looked at, not to mention an overall look as to whether the season as a whole is worth tracking down… Plus, I like consistency, so there! With that said, let’s take a closer look!
I was going to do my first ever re-watch of the 2000s remake, but then I thought it would be more fun to watch the original series first, then go into the remake with a whole new perspective from when I first saw it. The original series couldn’t be any more 70s if it tried, and is extremely… Star Wars-y, but it does have some originality and a few plus points. Let’s take a closer look (on Blu-Ray no less!)
American Gods is the first series or film based on a book where I have actually read the book in question long before seeing it. Sadly, I remember the book being quite slow and a struggle to bother with in parts, and this TV series seems to be a really faithful adaptation of the book… Still, it does have some amazing special effects and scenes, plus plenty of great dialogue and characters, sadly mixed with a lot of (mostly) unnecessary “shocking” moments. It’s quite the variety show, that’s for sure!
The final third of Agents of SHIELD’s fourth season is pretty much “Agents of SHIELD does The Matrix”, though with some alternate timeline stuff thrown in. Then the last few episodes wrap up things nicely, before setting up a big new plot twist for the next season. So let’s have a better look at this third “arc”, shall we?
Blake’s 7 comes to its ultimate conclusion with the last four episodes of Series 4. Besides the now infamous ending to Episode 13, does the show go out with a bang? Close, I really loved three of the four episodes, which is better than most of this series so far, but it still doesn’t come close to Series 3. Still, a good end, and certainly a memorable one…
Arrow’s fifth season was a return to form for the show in most regards. It sits comfortably as not as good as Seasons 1 and 2, but far better than Season 3 and 4. It also ties up the flashbacks and has a grand finale involving many returning characters from the show…
Arrow’s fifth season reaches its big finale, and what a finale it was. In fact this last chunk of episodes felt far more like a overall series finale than a season finale… well, accept that end-of-season cliffhanger… Anyway, let’s take a look!
The Flash’s third season was the weakest so far, but that doesn’t mean it was bad, just not as good (it was no Arrow Season 3, that’s for sure!) Flashpoint, Savitar, Kid Flash, Gorilla Grodd invasion, alien invasion, a musical episode and a disappointing season cliffhanger, this season had it all!
The Flash closes out its third season with an entertaining five episodes, though its sudden cliffhanger left a lot to be desired. Still, I won’t let that dampen the overall fun of the season’s final episodes…
