Doctor Who: Alien Heart / Dalek Soul Review

DW AH DS

We reach the yearly “experimental” trilogy in the main range, this time instead of one linking story or villain across Doctors 5 – 7, this time each of three Doctors gets a two two-parters release. This is a bit odd as I often find, at least in the Fourth Doctor range (made up mostly of two parters) this often leads to rushed stories with poor character development, where as the main range with its four episodes is often better for it. This release shows a good example of the worst and a great example of the best way to handle two part, or 1 hour, stories on audio. Let’s take a closer look at each!

Battlestar Galactica – The Original Series Episodes 1 – 7 Review

BSG OS1

I was going to do my first ever re-watch of the 2000s remake, but then I thought it would be more fun to watch the original series first, then go into the remake with a whole new perspective from when I first saw it. The original series couldn’t be any more 70s if it tried, and is extremely… Star Wars-y, but it does have some originality and a few plus points. Let’s take a closer look (on Blu-Ray no less!)

American Gods – Season 1 Overall Review

American Gods Redux

American Gods is the first series or film based on a book where I have actually read the book in question long before seeing it. Sadly, I remember the book being quite slow and a struggle to bother with in parts, and this TV series seems to be a really faithful adaptation of the book… Still, it does have some amazing special effects and scenes, plus plenty of great dialogue and characters, sadly mixed with a lot of (mostly) unnecessary “shocking” moments. It’s quite the variety show, that’s for sure!

Doctor Who: Zaltys Review

DW Zaltys

The first Fifth Doctor, Adric, Nyssa and Tegan trilogy comes to a close with Zaltys, a fun story with some good twists and turns along its runtime. A very enjoyable trilogy overall, made better by the freshness of the lead cast, after nearly a decade and a half of Fifth Doctor releases, it’s good to hear this period of the show getting new stories at last!

Agents of SHIELD – Season 4 Episodes 16 – 22 Review

AOS S4 P3

The final third of Agents of SHIELD’s fourth season is pretty much “Agents of SHIELD does The Matrix”, though with some alternate timeline stuff thrown in. Then the last few episodes wrap up things nicely, before setting up a big new plot twist for the next season. So let’s have a better look at this third “arc”, shall we?

Doctor Who: Cuckoo and Uninvited Guest Review

DW Cuckoo and UG

My journey through the Emperor of the Daleks collected DWM comics comes to an end with these two low-key stories. It also marks the end of the Seventh Doctor comic strips in the magazine, as after this they just switched between Doctors as the idea of new Who on TV began to vanish. So let’s see how this era of British Who comics came to an end!

Mobile Suit Gundam – Overall Review

MSGundam

Although I normally don’t do “overall reviews” for series without a clear narrative throughout the series, Gundam falls awkwardly in between the two extremes. A lot of the episodes or smaller story arcs are stand alone, but the development of Amuro and Char, as well as the latter’s revenge against the Zabis, and their budding rivalry does go across the whole series. Plus the One Year War itself, although already underway when the series starts, is also sort of a running narrative. So let’s take an overall look at the original Mobile Suit Gundam series…

Doctor Who: Final Genesis and Time and Time Again Review

DW Final Genesis TATA

My journey through the Emperor of the Daleks collected Doctor Who Magazine graphic novel thingie continues with the four-part alternate Earth story “Final Genesis”, and the 30th Anniversary 10-page colour special “Time and Time Again”, plus both feature the “bad ass” New Adventures version of Ace, so… hooray? Let’s find out!
