When I saw the synopsis for “Run” I felt a cold shiver go up my spine as it sounded like another ham-fisted attempt at political satire like “The Salurian Candidate”, and while thankfully it never sank that low it’s still as subtle as a brick to the face and not very clever to boot, so it didn’t make for a good hour’s listen. I know what you’re thinking, “Didn’t you just say how much you hated Ultimate Battle 22 and you waited until the PS2 games came out?” Why yes, and that’s still true, but what I did do was at some point in between Budokai 1 and 2 I found Final Bout in a second-hand games shop for a couple of pounds and thought “why not?”, assuming it was a poorer man’s Tekken or Street Fighter EX, not knowing of course that it was literally UB22 but with 3D graphics instead. *sigh*. Still, by covering this now it means whenever I get to the first chunk of Z films I can review the Budokai trilogy one after another, so that’s nice, plus there’s something fitting about review a GT-heavy game while reviewing the Dragon Ball film that was released while GT was airing and featured GT elements… It sort of matches! Let’s take a look!

The fourth Dragon Ball film is a real oddity as it was actually created after all 13 Dragon Ball Z films and was released as Dragon Ball GT was airing, meaning there is a noticeable uptick in animation quality; some of the designs were redone, especially Goku as he is literally the Kid Goku from DBGT complete with yellow trousers and pink armbands (at least later in the film), and there are moments of definite Z/GT style “powering up”. Despite all this though it re-adapts the first story arc (again!) but adds in the Red Ribbon Army instead of Pilaf (I’d say “again!” but the RRA here is mostly the characters not used in the previous film) so it definitely fits into the same mould as the three previous DB films, just with higher production values and a longer runtime. Does it work? Let’s take a look!

Let’s once again end a run of “Game to Live Action Movies” with a Sonic movie funnily enough as we take a look at Sonic The Hedgehog 2, a sequel to one of those extremely rare things known as a good game adaptation (and a great game in its own right!). Thankfully Sonic 2 manages to keep the momentum going and deliver another fun film with more Jim Carrey insanity, the debut of Tails and Knuckles and even more original MegaDrive Sonic references for me to smirk at. Let’s take a look!

Like many Mega Drive owners Sonic 2 holds a special place in my heart, even though I technically played the completely different Master System game of the same name first much like Sonic 1 I’m not going to deny this version is better. So even if I wasn’t reviewing the Sonic The Hedgehog 2 film this game would’ve appeared on this site sooner or later. Frankly Sonic 2 on the Mega Drive is one of my go-to childhood games that I put on for an hour or two here and there because I know I’ll always have a great time both due to nostalgia and the fact it’s still a great game, right up there with Streets of Rage II on both accounts. So let’s take a look!

Travel in Hope, the latest Ninth Doctor full cast box set, gets off to a fun start with two well written space-based stand alone stories that may not amaze you but will definitely entertain you, in two very different ways. “Below There” I found the best of the two for creating a good sense of tension and intrigue while “The Butler Did It” was a fun little run-around “whodunnit”. Let’s take a look!

While we eagerly wait the third phase’s kick off in a month or two thanks to the Marvel Unlimited app being a few months behind I still have some Phase 2 comic stories to get through (plus one Manga volume!), including this one! “The Blade” feels more like a spin-off from Phase 2, focusing on Porter Engle and his partner Barash Silvain with little interaction with the main plot. It’s a fun story though, so I’m not exactly complaining! Let’s take a look…

It’s time for another CG Resident Evil movie set within the canon game timeline that will inevitably not actually be mentioned in the games! Hooray! Seriously though, as a die hard Resi fan since day one I do love these as a guilty pleasure and boy oh boy does Death Island play to my fanboy heart: Chris, Jill, Leon, Claire and Rebecca all in one story? Actually following up on character development from Resi 5 and 6? A villain with an actual interesting backstory?! (before becoming a generic villain in the end) Yes for this fan this was a great 90 minutes, if you’re not a fan then… well, let’s take a look…

The second and third stories in the “James Robert McCrimmon” boxset of Season 6B stories offer two fun and simple hour-long (or two part) stories and moves the whole Raven plotline along a little bit too. Michael Troughton and Fraser Hines get on really well as a double act, so if nothing else the two stories are elevated due to that. Let’s take a look!

Like many people I loved the X-Men cartoon growing up in the early 90s and so like many people I’m very excited for the upcoming “X-Men 97” series, which is weirdly a fancy name for a sixth season of the original show. So I thought I’d see if I can review the five seasons leading up to the release of 97 though given we have no concrete date other than late 2023 I can’t say if I’ll make it or not, but either way I’ve enjoyed this enough that I’ll want to carry on regardless! I still remember the opening two-parter vividly, seven-or-eight-year-old me was blown away by the more serious tone the show went for (same reason I loved the Batman animated series) so let’s see if that holds up several decades later…
