Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure (GBA) Review

I finally figured out how to get through my colossal Dragon Ball game backlog on this site: attach a game review with each movie / TV special review! Amazingly given how many films and specials the combined series has this was only JUST enough. That being said, let’s get the two Dragon Ball games I own out the way before sadly starting the Z games while still reviewing original Dragon Ball films, that’s just how much more popular the Z brand is,  and we do that with Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure (which I could’ve sworn was called “Advance Adventure”, but I guess I was misremembering…) I remember just being happy to see a game based on the original series at the time but as it turned out it was far deeper and more addictive than I had anticipated. Let’s see if it still holds up!

Dragon Ball: Curse of the Blood Rubies Review

Before we get to the final chunk of original Dragon Ball episodes I thought I’d better cover the four Dragon Ball movies first, as they all feature Goku as a kid, rather than the taller late teen we see in the final story arc, and they generally adapt the stories we’ve already covered via the main series, just with new antagonists and such. “Curse of the Blood Rubies” (known simply as “The Legend of Shenlong” in Japan) adapts the very first story arc of the series but takes out Pilaf and his gang and inserts a new threat in King Gurumes and his men. How much does this change the story? Not as much as it only being 40 minutes does… Still, let’s take a look at the first of many, many Dragon Ball-related 40-odd minute films and specials!

Doctor Who: The Ghost of Margaret Review

It’s time for Margaret’s not particularly long or interesting stay in the TARDIS to come to an end, and it seems like they’ve saved the best for last! Yes, The Ghost of Margaret made me care more about the character than any of her other appearances and just generally told a really good story. Better late than never, I guess! Let’s take a look.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2) / Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – Definitive Edition (PS4) Review

It’s time to bring a close to my look at the PS2 GTA trilogy and their “Definitive Editions” with the iconic San Andreas. As you’d hope with the final entry in a trilogy it built upon what came before it and added so much more… everything, even cities to explore. Sadly this is the one game where its Definitive Edition is still a bit of a mess, but ignoring that little modern road bump I’ve had nothing but praise for San Andreas since it came out, let’s see if that still holds true in 2023, nearly 20 years later (bloody hell…)

Secret Invasion Review

The MCU pushes forward with another TV show but sadly it’s among the first MCU properties I just didn’t click with. Sometimes great actors and acting can overcome a dull certain issues but this was not one of those times, I can’t quite put my finger of exactly why but the show never drew me in to the point where a few weeks I forgot it was on and watched it Thursday instead of the Wednesday it uploaded. To be so unengaged when such good actors were on my screen is a real sign of poor script and direction, I guess. Oh well, let’s take a closer look anyway…

Doctor Who: Stone Cold Review

The latest Fourth Doctor Adventures set nears its end with this fun, albeit straight forward, four-part adventure featuring the Weeping Angels, the only “new series” monsters to gain any forward momentum as a “classic” enemy, so much so that Big Finish have just blatantly ignored the Eleventh Doctor claiming to have only encountered them once before… Anyway, let’s take a look at the story!

Resident Evil: City of the Dead & Underworld Review

As I mentioned in my previous post reviewing Welcome to Raccoon City I’d ran out of games to review alongside it, so I thought I’d instead pick up the next two RE novels which includes an adaptation of RE2, so it sort of works? Well, not really, but hey, why not? Underworld is another novel-original story so it’s another box ticked in my accidental bid to review every RE story at some point, so let’s take a look!

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City Review

I had somewhat high hopes for Welcome to Raccoon City when it was first announced, writer/director Johannes Roberts made it clear how big of a fan he was of the franchise, but the announcement that it was merging the first two games into one story put up some red flags, and sadly after watching it you can throw in two all-time great Resi characters being heavily rewritten for the worse as another strike against it. It’s far from all bad, especially for the budget, but the fan-side of me was disappointed after the hype of the film “being closer to the games”. Oh well, let’s take a look at the film as a whole.

This is a “bonus” review by the way because I’ve already covered Resident Evil 1 (HERE), it’s Remake (HERE), as well as Resident Evil 2 (HERE) and its Remake (HERE), so there wasn’t a game to review next to it, though I will throw in an extra related review after this goes up for the hell of it.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED C.E. 73: Stargazer Review

After a brief break to cover the recently-aired shows we have one last visit to the Cosmic Era of Gundam to go before moving on to our next older anime review chunk and it’s Stargazer, the three 15-minute episode OVA series, or ONA I should say, it was an early example of Original Net Animations! This is my first time watching the “series” as it wasn’t released on DVD here with the rest of SEED so its inclusion with the rest of the SEED Destiny box is my first chance to sit down with it. Turns out it’s pretty good, for a 45 minute story anyway. Let’s take a look!

Doctor Who: The Wizard of Time & The Friendly Invasion Review

The first half (I guess?) of the latest chunk of “Fourth Doctor Adventures” comprises of two two-part stories that feel completely different. The Wizard of Time tried something new with the story structure (or at least “rarely used”) where as The Friendly Invasion is a little more “safe” though has some good ideas in. The thing is neither story particularly worked for me, which is a shame because I do obviously prefer when they do try and step out of the standard box so I’m kind of annoyed I much preferred the next story, which is basically your bog-standard base under siege… oh well! Let’s take a look as this double bill first.
