Doctor Who: The Hollows of Time Review

The Hollows of Time was written by TV story fan favourite Christopher H Bidmead, but sadly much like his other Audio effort “Renaissance of the Daleks” this leaves a lot to be desired. Full of long exposition and very few thrills… ever, Hollows of Time lives up to the hollow part if nothing else. Throw in the unfortunate fact that Big Finish at the time couldn’t get rights to The Master, leaving “Professor Stream” as figure of mystery that clearly is supposed to be Ainley’s Master in disguise but is never revealed as such, and it’s a pretty poor way to spend two hours…

Iron Man Review

It’s time to have a look at the film that started it all: Iron Man. It’s funny to think back to when this film was announced and I just sort of shrugged, thinking “I enjoyed the cartoon back in the day, and the suits might look cool in live action, if they manage to pull it off.” I didn’t even watch it until it appeared on DVD… Now, in 2021, it’s the movie that kicked off an entire, unique “cinematic universe”, before that catchphrase was a thing. Anyway, how does Iron Man stand up today? Let’s take a look!

Doctor Who: Leviathan Review

During the first series of Lost Stories I remember there being two unexpected hits, this and “Point of Entry”, and while the latter often splits opinion, Leviathan is often pointed out as the major hit of the run. Why? Well, it blends medieval folklore with a fun sci-fi plot, and does it very well. Want more specifics? Well, let’s take a closer look then!

ToeJam and Earl (Mega Drive) Review

What’s this? An older game review that ISN’T a scrolling beat ‘em up?! I know! Feels like forever, though funnily enough me and my friend played this childhood classic at the same time we played the older Streets of Rage games (they were all on the same digital collection, so why not?) so this review and its screenshots have been sitting on my PC’s hard drive for the better part of a year… Oh well! Let’s take a look at the other MegaDrive game that along with Sonic 2 and Streets of Rage II always comes to my mind when someone mentions the console…

Doctor Who: The Primeval Design Review

Ending this year’s “Fourth Doctor Adventures” run is The Primeval Design, a story that sadly is neither here nor there. It has some good characters and a few decent ideas, but it’s not exactly a roller coaster of excitement. Want more detail? What’s that? No? I’ve already told you what it’s like so why bother? Oh… Well, I mean, I do go into a bit more detail, but fair enough I guess…

Marvel Anime: X-Men Review

This was recommended to me by Netflix’s algorithm (probably due to me having watch both comic book adaptations and anime, I guess…) and I thought “Why not? It’s only 12 episodes and I am interested to see how they handled it!” I’m happy to report that I enjoyed it a lot, it actually took a unique look into the world of X-Men rather than focus on villains like Magneto, and was all the more interesting for it. Let’s take a look!

Doctor Who: The Tribulations of Thaddeus Nook Review

I didn’t know what to expect going into a story called “The Tribulations of Thaddeus Nook”. It sounded like some done-to-death Victorian era story again, but turns out its nothing of the sort and was actually really good fun! Full of good characters and a twisty plot involving time travel and alien empires. Let’s take a look!

Captain America: The First Avenger Review

I thought it was about time I finally watched the first three phases of the MCU in a … well, not a row as in daily or anything, but in order over a month or two. That means I’ll review the MCU films I haven’t reviewed yet while I go! Hooray! (and THAT means I’ll have all of the MCU films up by the end, take that Bond films! … *sigh*) I always start with Captain America before settling into release order, and now more than ever does the film feel like the true start as it mirrors the final scene in Endgame perfectly. Also, and most importantly, the film is really good in its own right! Let’s take a look…

Doctor Who – The Blazing Hour Review

Here we go then, not only the last stand-alone Fifth Doctor story in the classic “Main Range”, but also the last single Doctor, four-part story in the Main Range. While I’m sure the boxsets that replace it will be perfectly fine, it is a shame to say goodbye to what has always been the backbone of Big Finish Doctor Who. So before we get to the final multi-Doctor release next month let’s look at “The Blazing Hour”, a Fifth Doctor and Turlough story, which in itself is quite rare. Was it a good send off to the regular range’s standard format? Let’s find out!

The King of Fighters: A New Beginning – Volume 4 Review

The King of Fighters XIV manga adaptation continues to show the same pattern of “two chapters of fighting, interlude, two chapters of fighting” that the previous volumes have, but also continues to heavily feature the NESTS organisation, which gives it many bonus points in my eyes. Let’s see how it continues on, shall we! Erm… BURN TO FIGHT! I guess? (that’s the pre-fight phrase, for some reason…)
