Final Fantasy XV

I actually had plans to review this game when I played through it in 2017, but I was focusing almost entirely on the non-gaming blog at the time (when they weren’t combined into one!) and ended up leaving it. Fast forward to today and I played through the quick “Episode Ardyn” DLC, the final piece of extra content for the game, and thought I’d make up for lost time. Happily I still had a bunch of screenshots saved! ANYWAY, Final Fantasy XV is a hard one to quickly sum up, it’s quite unlike any other game I’ve played, part open world RPG, part Japanese RPG, definite Final Fantasy looking character designs, but a very American looking world… It’s a bizarre blend, but one that surprisingly worked! Let’s take a closer look.

So the Audio / Comic Companion Debut Marathon comes to a close with the Eleventh Doctor’s Titan Comics companion Alice… plus John Jones and ARC, who last far less, but do travel with The Doctor, to be fair to them! Anyway, let’s have a look at “After Life”, which unlike the 10th Doctor stuff, is actually four short stories with connected themes, rather than all being multi-part affairs…

Game of Thrones – Season 8 Episodes 1 – 3 Review

We’re half way through the final season of Game of Thrones already, and we’ve had the long awaited showdown with the Night King and his army of the dead. Frankly that is all we’ve had, with episode 2 being entirely build up, and episode 3 being the entire battle. While it was good, and had some great moments, I can’t help feeling it was a bit of an anti-climax, probably because it wasn’t the climax… Let’s have a look, anyway!

As we near the end of the Audio / Comics Companion Debut Marathon we reach the Titan comics range, a range I started covering on this blog from “Year 2” onwards, so this is slightly awkward as I’ll be going back to the start, before beginning to tackle “Year 3” in a month or so… Oh well! The Tenth Doctor’s new companion for the range, Gabby, is a fun character and their adventures get off to a good, and less complicated, start… so let’s have a look!

Avengers: Endgame Review

Avengers Endgame

Well, here we are then. The big finale to a story arc that started 21 films ago, and once again the Russo brothers and the whole team behind the film have somehow pulled it off. They managed to make a film with lots of depth of character, great callbacks to previous entries in the franchise, and then wrap it all up with an extremely satisfying final fight. Excitement, drama, even getting emotional at times… it was a great experience, one I’ll always remember. So without further dancing around spoilers, let’s take a deeper look at the film then!

Doctor Who: Silver Scream & The Fugitive Review

DW Silver Scream and Fugitive

This is a rare one, an IDW comic story (well, stories). I wasn’t a big fan of the IDW series, and re-reading these two confirmed that opinion. Wonky artwork (especially Silver Scream!) and endless, relentless call backs right from the off. The stories aren’t bad, but I just don’t like the presentation, not helped by the fact that I only own them digitally thanks to a Humble Bundle a fair few years ago. Either way though, I consider them “canon” to my personal Doctor Who timeline, so Emily and Matthew are indeed comic companions, so here they are in this marathon! Let’s take a look…

Doctor Who: The Monsters of Gokroth Review

This is what happened a few months ago: Big Finish – “Hey, Mags is back for a new trilogy with the Seventh Doctor!” Me – “… Who?” Yes, I didn’t recognise the name, and even when someone said it was the werewolf girl from “The Greatest Show in the Galaxy”, I thought “Oh her… right. Okay then?” Still, as unnecessary a reunion as it is, has it produced a great story? Not really, but it did at least give off a fresh feeling, hearing the Seventh Doctor with a companion other than Ace is a rare thing, if nothing else. So let’s take a deeper look into the Monsters of Gokroth and see where this new trilogy could lead…
