The next entry into the Smackdown! series of WWE games is the rather stupid sounding “Shut Your Mouth”, I guess they’d already used “Know Your Role” on SD!2 and “Just Bring It!” in the last game so ran out of Rock catchphrases? (Well, baring in mind “Smackdown! If You Smell” sounds weird) Subtitle aside SYM and its sequel are the high point of PS2 WWE games and frankly among the best in the whole Yukes SD/SvR/2K run that only recently came to an end. The latter two thirds of “Into the Stars” are on opposite ends of the fun scale, though neither are terrible or amazing, more “poor and good”, the contrast is rather stark. “Last of the Zetacene” is far too blunt with its message and has no interesting characters where as “Break The Ice” felt like a script right out of Russell T. Davies’ playbook complete with likable cast being hounded by a fairy-tale like monster on a space station. Want to know more? Click onwards!

The next set of Ninth Doctor Adventures goes from Earth-based to space-based, putting a title on … well, what Doctor Who does all the time anyway. Salvation Nine is a good example of taking a simple idea of “The Ninth Doctor meets the Sontarans” and giving it a bigger spin than you’d otherwise have to, taking a deeper dive into the clone race than perhaps has ever been taken…

The next, and sadly last for the foreseeable future, animated missing Doctor Who story has arrived in the large and hairy shape of “The Abominable Snowmen”, the first story to feature the Great Intelligence and his robotic Yeti, a fact that has become more important after the discovery of most of its sequel story roughly a decade back. It’s also a rare story in that I only experienced it once in my life prior to this, as a photo recon with the only existing episode (Episode 2) in the middle, and it was so dull I never wanted to go back to it again. Does the animated version improve the experience? Let’s find out!

This was a legitimately hard review to write as I didn’t particularly like my time watching the show but it wasn’t because it was bad per say, just that it felt very much aimed at an audience that wasn’t me. I have zero interest in the life of an American high school girl, regardless of race, and as such large parts of the show just felt like I was watching something I had to rather than because I wanted to, all thanks to a want to say that I’ve “watched all of the MCU”. It’s not a bad show, it may even be a great show if your young enough (or have been waiting for Muslims or Pakistan to get some much deserved positive screen time) but for me… well, let’s take a look before I give away the score now and be done with it!

Getting a new Eight Doctor and Charley story is always special for me, they were the lead duo I loved listening to when I first got into Big Finish Doctor Who audio, but I have to say this next story in “Classic Doctors, New Monsters: The Stuff of Nightmares” was disappointing. I get where they went with it and it was well written and performed but I just didn’t get on with it for most of its runtime… Want to know more? Read on!

Continuing to look at the third “Classic Doctors, New Monsters” set titled “The Stuff of Nightmares” with the first of two stories that feature the “Dream Crabs” that feed off human brains while stimulating dreams for them as they do so. It was a fun (and obviously horrifying) concept for the Twelfth Doctor Christmas story they came from, but do the creatures work a second time round in the excellently titled “Together in Eclectic Dreams”? With “Phase 2” looming ever closer its about time I catch up with posting these reviews! First up is “Trail of Shadows”, a five issue mini-series that sort of acts as a detective noir in the Star Wars universe, though with a focus on the anti-Jedi fear-creating “Nameless” creatures seen in the latter two thirds of the original Phase. The second story in “Classic Doctors, New Monsters: The Stuff of Nightmares” is once again not anything of nightmares, instead it’s the Tivolians, the race from the Eleventh Doctor era that is infamous for have no backbone to the point where they’re happy to be conquered by invading races. A funny concept and they fit well into a Fourth Doctor story (though maybe a bit later in his run?) but that’s two in the row that doesn’t live up the subtitle, meaning it’s literally referring to the creatures in the last two tales… Anyway, let’s have a look at this one!
