At long… LONG last I’ve watched and now reviewed No Time To Die, finally able to say I have all official EON Bond films reviewed on this site. So after all the build up and delays, what was the film like? Well, it wasn’t much of a Bond film but did have some great set pieces and an ending that will be remembered for a long time, whether that be good or bad is up to you (also whether you like Metal Gear Solid enough to find a very specific re-used plot device distracting…) Let’s finally take a look!

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Review

Speaking of things just released on 4K blu-ray (as I was a week ago… that paragraph starter doesn’t really work here in that case… oh well) we have Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, the CG follow up film to the mega-popular RPG. At the time of its release I was blown away by the animation and CG effects and I guess I convinced myself to buy the 4K version because I was desperate to reclaim that feeling but I have to say it doesn’t matter how uncompressed it is CG animation from 2005 just doesn’t impress any more in 2021… Still, what’s the actual story and experience like? Let’s take a look!

Doctor Who: Galaxy 4 Review

I don’t know, you wait around for an animated reconstruction of a mostly missing Doctor Who serial and two come along… roughly within a month of each other! Although to be fair to Galaxy 4 it’s no Evil of the Daleks, and not just because it starts William Hartnell’s First Doctor instead of the Second. Yes, this is the first animated Who story that I really didn’t enjoy watching the recon/single episode the first time round and while all four episodes flowing together via animation was a far more enjoyable experience it didn’t help what is a pretty poor story… Let’s take a look!

Mass Effect 1: Legendary Edition (PS4) Review

I’ve been wanting to play through the Mass Effect games for years, ever since seeing my friend play through most of the first game (an act that then meant I didn’t want to play it right away since the story was so fresh in my memory…) Well, after putting it off for years they release the “Legendary Edition” of all three games with some quality of life improvements and upgraded graphics so I saw my opportunity to finally experience the sweeping sci-fi saga for myself. As I haven’t played the original version this is purely talking about the Legendary version of ME1 which has had the most upgrades, so I’m afraid on this one occasion I have to ignore the original version of a game entirely rather than cover both at the same time like I’ve done in the past… With that said, let’s take a look!

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Review

It’s finally time to look at a fresh MCU movie actually set after Phase 3 with “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”. Now I’ll admit I’ve been reading Marvel comics and watching Marvel properties for a long time now but I only ever heard of Shang-Chi in passing, just “it was Marvel’s attempt to cash in on the 70s Kung Fu craze” so I was surprised to hear this going into production. Thankfully while it doesn’t reach Guardians level of “obscure property made big hit” Shang-Chi was an enjoyable two and half hours watch…

Ghost in the Shell (1995) Review

As I settled down to watch the newly released 4K blu-ray of this all-time classic I thought it was a good time to finally review it on this site, especially given I’ll be reviewing the Matrix trilogy leading into the release of the fourth film in a few weeks. Yes this first Ghost in the Shell anime film has inspired so many people and properties in its wake (not to mention a fun Anime TV series I’ve already reviewed in “Stand Alone Complex”) that it’s hard to cut all of that out and just focus on it as a singular story. The Diary of River Song: Series 9 “New Recruit” – Never Alone & Rivers of Light Review

The second half of River Song’s ninth series is like a reverse of the previous half, instead of a good story and a forgettable one involving a false reality this one starts with a forgettable one involving a false reality and ends on a good story. The good story itself features the Third Doctor arriving and has a good bit of interaction between himself and River, which is good fun. Want to know more? Read on!

GTA2 (PS1) Review

I always like taking a look back at GTA2 (which it’s always referred to as on the cover and in the game, though obviously it stands for Grand Theft Auto 2…) as it still has the original top down view and gameplay but adds in a bunch of stuff that will become staples of future titles and a really fun gang reputation system that has never reappeared. Its setting is also unique, being set in an unspecific time period with a “retrofuturistic” aesthetic. Intrigued? I was back in 99! Let’s have a closer look…

Doctor Who: Flux – War of the Sontarans Review

War of the Sontarans is 90% a really good stand-alone Sontaran story and 10% a continuation of the Flux story arc, and it works really well! It’s nice seeing the titular potato-headed foes get a classic series inspired makeover and feel like a threat again (while still retaining the absurd humour aspect as well) and while it’s not exactly a flawless episode it was very entertaining!
