Ignoring my constant annoyance that it’s called “08th” which always made me read it as “Oh-Eighth” rather than just “Eighth” (entirely me being stupid, don’t worry about it), it’s actually a good story, very much Romeo and Juliet, just with a bit of a different setting, to say the least! When I announced this Audio/Comic companion marathon I actually excluded Tamsin Drew because in reality she’s just a cog in the larger Lucie Miller storyline and only lasts two or three stories as an actual Doctor companion, but you know what? The Eighth Doctor names her in his death monologue, so why not? Save someone complaining I “left her out” anyway! With that all said, let’s take a look at Situation Vacant, a really fun hour of Doctor Who!
Another day, another Netflix show that I didn’t immediately jump on but ended up enjoying immensely. Umbrella Academy is at its heart a superhero show about a dysfunctional group of heroes getting together to stop a threat, but it doesn’t take itself seriously, its cast is a mishmash of troubled souls quite unlike anything I’ve ever seen, and it’s just generally bonkers. At only 10 episodes it doesn’t overstay its welcome either! Let’s take deeper look, anyway…
If you thought “The False Guardian / Time’s Assassin” was Daleks’ Master Plan-y, then you haven’t seen anything yet! Yes, the four part, two hour story “The Perfect Prisoners” goes even more all-in with its sequel to the 12-part Hartnell TV classic, including either the return of or the son of every delegate remaining from the original story, plus more! Is is worth a listen on its own, or is it just hanging on its sequel-ness? Let’s take a look!
One of my goals for this blog this year is to get rid of the “Coming Soon!” bits in the tab pages above, and to get that goal started, let’s add a Game Boy Advance game to the back catalogue! Thanks to the hype surrounding Castlevania being added to Smash Ultimate, I was in the mood for a Castlevania game beyond playing Super IV for the Smash rundown, so I decided to start with the first of the GBA games, killing two birds with one stone, plus leaving me open to play the others ones down the line… Let’s have a look then!

Before I move on to alternate era Gundam shows, I really wanted to finish the UC timeline first (still-being-released stuff aside, obviously!) so I’ve finally brought a multi-region Blu-Ray player and ordered a bunch of UC OVAs, films and Victory Gundam from the US (my poor wallet…). The one I didn’t order is this one, 0080: War in the Pocket, as it isn’t released on Blu-Ray in the States yet! So I thought I’d pop on my old DVD of it and kick off the UC review finale. War in the Pocket is a surprisingly fun and quite emotional mini-series to kick off non-Tomino-written UC Gundam shows. Let’s take a closer look…
When is using existing continuity going too far? That’s what question was on my mind while listening to this story. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a very fun story that doesn’t take itself too seriously, but I do have to wonder about… well, the continuity it uses. Want to know more? As Amazon Prime gets ready to bring us Season 4, we here in the UK have only just got access to The Expanse’s Third Season, and boy… it was worth the wait! Once again the first few episodes end the adaptation of a book that started in the previous season, but this time the third novel is adapted fully by the end of the series, and it makes for a crazy ride! Let’s take a closer look…
The first ever Big Finish story starring Kamelion is now in the books, meaning this second (and third, I guess) story in the run has a little less intrigue around it, and if anything highlights a potential flaw in writing for the character: originality. Both stories once again feature Kamelion being influenced by another powerful mind, the only real plot point he had on TV, and a plot point from the previous audio story… Still, are Black Thursday and Power Game still worth listening to? Well…
