It’s fitting that an MCU film with Marvel in the title is the film best described as being “very Marvel”. In a world where a lot of the MCU films are starting to forge their own identities or going for the big crossover, Captain Marvel feels like the earlier films, full of origin stories and foreboding. It that a bad thing? Let’s find out!
A week after the Season 18 Blu-ray release and we get an even more anticipated HD release for Doctor Who: another fully animated missing story, in this case The Macra Terror! Yes, I never thought I’d see the day… would be an understatement, even after the release of Power. So how does the animated version stack up, and how is the story overall? Well…
Here we go again… *sigh*, and I mean that far more literally than I’d like, as for the most part these three episodes follow the exact same story as the three previous. More of the same cast of uninteresting characters, more prototype weaponry and more test pilots dying. Oh, and of course, more cheapo looking CGI! Hooray?! Let’s take a look at the second IGLOO OVA then, at least there’s only one left to go!
Season 18 made its way to blu-ray this week, so as per usual I thought I’d review a story from the season to “celebrate”, so to speak. The big draw of the set is the new Special Edition of Logopolis, but given I’ve reviewed that already, I decided to go with the story I haven’t seen in the longest, which in this case was Meglos. Nearly 10 years since I last watched it and mentally wrote it off as “boring”, I actually enjoyed it more than that memory would‘ve had me believe. By how much? Well, let’s find out!
The Kamelion Empire is a story of two very clear halves, one is a moody tale going into the unique and interesting history of Kamelion’s people, and the second half a generic run-around with a very one-note sneering villain. The problem comes from the fact that this is supposed to be one story, not two like last month! Still, does the good outweigh the predictable? Let’s find out!
This is a rare treat, a Universal Century Gundam review where I’m seeing it for the first time! Wow! … oh, wait, there was a reason I never bothered to import it. It’s IGLOO, the CGI OVAs that became terribly dated just a few years after they released in 2004, let alone now! Seriously, my review of the first Resident Evil CGI film was harsh on the then-infant technology, but this takes the biscuit, which is a shame because the actual plot is quite enjoyable! Oh well, let’s get the first of these THREE OVAs out of the way…
This was an awkward one to review, as it felt to recent to re-listen to it retrospectively, yet it was obviously far too long ago to review it from memory. Still, there were worst things to relisten to than the introduction of The Eleven, and the debut story of Helen Sinclair (though mostly because it’s a really good story, rather than for the debut itself) So while it may be a fair few years before I review the rest of Doom Coalition, let’s take a look how it started, shall we?
Here we go then, this is one of the big ones for the “10 Decades” marathon, as it was the highest grossing box office film for many years, and a sci-fi film to boot, and yet I never watched it. Why? Well, all I ever heard about it was how seeing it in 3D was amazing, and a real experience in the cinema, that sort of thing, but I hate 3D, it gives me a headache even with the glasses on, so I didn’t bother. The story sounded dull and cliché anyway… Just about a decade later and I finally sit down and watch it, and guess what? It looks nice, but its dull and cliché… Let’s have a look in more detail anyway, because why not?
I wanted this to be good so much… *sigh*. So, here we have Jump Force, the latest crossover game featuring characters from Weekly Shonen Jump!, the most popular manga comic in Japan, and publishers of such classics as Dragon Ball, One Piece, Bleach, Death Note and many… many more. With such an endless wealth of things to use and play with, how does a company fail to deliver? Well, let’s find out, shall we!
Continuing the many audio companions of the Eighth Doctor we have Molly O’Sullivan, who appears solely in the Dark Eyes series of audios. Dark Eyes begins the Eighth Doctor’s transfer from the single-disc “Eighth Doctor Adventures” range to series of four, four-story boxset “series”, a theme that continues today, although that really begin with Dark Eyes 2, as this boxset was clearly written as a stand-alone story, a four-parter in all but name, which is why I’m reviewing the whole box rather than splitting it in half like I do for later releases. With all that being said, is it any good? Erm…
