Doctor Who: The Silurian Candidate Review

DW Silurian Candidate

I had high hopes for The Silurian Candidate, one of two Main Range audio releases this month, but sadly it was far too concerned with lampooning Donald Trump than it was telling a new or interesting story with the Silurians. Sadly that’s another 7th Doctor / Ace / Mel trilogy in the Main Range that just hasn’t worked, although at least this time the lead trio weren’t really the problem… let’s take a closer look…

Alien Week next week!

Quick little notice…. thingy, next week, to “celebrate” the blu-ray (and DVD!) release of Alien: Covenant, I’ll be doing an “Alien Week”. Much like my Resident Evil week two months ago, it will cover the series, this time of films only, though I’ll be doing it in release order rather than in-universe chronological order, like I would normally do. This is because I haven’t actually seen Covenant yet, so I have to watch and review it during the week itself, so couldn’t place it second in line. Basically, it will be like this:

Monday 18th: Alien Review

Tuesday 19th: Aliens Review

Wednesday 20th: Alien3 Review

Thursday 21st: Alien Resurrection Review

Friday 22nd: Prometheus Review

Saturday 23rd: Alien Covenant Review.

As per usual there will be other reviews going up I’m sure, but these are actually set in stone. Hope you (and I) enjoy!

Galactica 1980 – Episodes 6 – 10 Review

Galactica 1980 P2

Galactica 1980 comes to a close already, though given the “quality” I’m not really surprised the show fell flat on its face. Just like the first five there are a few brief ideas that work, but far too much that doesn’t, apart from the last episode, which focuses on Starbuck from the Original Series, that’s actually good! Hooray! Let’s take a closer look at the end of the original Battlestar Galactica run…

Gotham – Season 3 Episodes 1 – 7 Review

Gotham S3 P1

What’s that American readers (if you exist) ? Why am I reviewing Season 3 now when Season 4 is about to air? Well, sadly here in the UK the TV channel that had the rights, Channel 5, decided not to show Season 3, meaning it appearing on the UK Netflix is the first chance I’ve had to watch it. Now, that means I can binge watch several episodes, which I will, but it is more than a little annoying to be so far behind. With that said, let’s take a look at the first seven episodes of Season 3!

Doctor Who: The Then and The Now Review

DW TTaTN

Continuing with my catch up with Year 2 of Titan’s Doctor Who comic paperbacks, I jump onto the Eleventh Doctor’s run with “The Then and The Now”, which starts a rather continuity-heavy look back at The Doctor’s time in the Time War, including the first (I think?) appearance of the War Doctor in comic form! … and Abslom Daak?! Let’s take a look!

Hellsing Ultimate – Overall Review

Hellsing Ult

Even though it isn’t a TV series, it is a series of episodes and does have an over-arching plot to talk about rather than unconnected stories, so I’ll give Hellsing Ultimate the “Overall Review” treatment. If you’ve been reading the five individual parts you’ll know that this type of show isn’t normally my cup of tea, but there is something about the character designs and insane plot that makes it enjoyable. So, for the last time, let’s take a closer look!

Galactica 1980 – Episodes 1 – 5 Review

G1980 P1

After a break from Galactica I’m back to finish off the original run… admittedly I took the break because I’d heard how back Galactica 1980 was and wasn’t in a hurry to dive in, and I can say that… it’s pretty bad, but not quite the end of us all that I was lead to believe. That being said, the first three episodes are one story, and episodes 4 and 5 are similarly linked (and are far, far worse than the first three…) so maybe it just keeps getting worse from here… Hooray?! Let’s take a look…

200 Published Reviews Special: Dragon Ball Z Kai Season 1 Archive Review!

200 R Special

I’m a sad man… not as in I’m unhappy, but as in I’ve kept track of the things I’ve reviewed over the past few years, and I can now say that, if you combine my reviews for Anime UK News, here on this blog, my sparsely updated gaming blog and my long-abandoned but still technically active wrestling review blog, then you get the grand total of 199! So for my 200th published review I though I’d publish one of my first reviews ever. This is the review I wrote as a sample review in order to eventually land the Anime UK News job, but since there was already a perfectly fine Dragon Ball Z Kai Season 1 review up, it obviously went unused (beyond the use of proving I can write reviews and getting me the job, obviously!), but that also means it doesn’t fall under the category being property of Anime UK News, meaning I can post the review here.

So I thought it would be fun to post it as a celebration of my reviews, especially as that would mean I won’t just have Seasons 2-4 links on this site and I can complete the set. So here it is, no pictures, just the text that got me started down this path…

Hellsing Ultimate – Volumes IX and X Review

Hellsing Ult IX and X

Hellsing Ultimate, and therefore the original Hellsing Manga’s storyline, reaches its end with the 9th and 10th OVAs. As I’ve mentioned previously, this was actually my first time seeing them, after only I – VIII being available here in the UK until Crunchyroll’s recent upload. In the end, while it does tie up lose ends and has some good moments, none are as good as Seras vs. Zorin or Alucard vs. Anderson from the previous two Volumes. Still, a good enough end, I feel. Let’s take a closer look!
