Doctor Who: Arena of Fear Review

DW AoF

I know I said “occasional dip into Titan comics Trade Paper Backs”, but I didn’t mean for it to be quite THIS occasional! I guess that’s what happens when so many family members visit during August. ANYWHO, the 10th Doctor “Year 2” comics continue with Arena of Fear, featuring three stories (Arena of Fear, The Wishing Well Witch and The Infinite Corridor) across five issues. Let’s take a closer look!

Hellsing Ultimate – Volumes VII and VIII Review

Hellsing Ult P4

Wow, three anime-related posts in a row! Oh well, it happens when you don’t have any schedule, I guess! Anyway, THIS is why I have fond memories of watching the “Hellsing Ultimate V – VIII” blu-ray a few years ago… The two OVAs this time share a common thread: make the two lead characters look as “bad ass” as possible with crazy powers, and it achieves this goal! That being said there are several other good points on top of this to make Volumes VII and VIII a top watch… for a show about vampire SS Nazis vs. an anti-vampire organisation vs. the Vatican’s KKK-looking army… Let’s take a closer look then!

Game of Thrones – Season 7 Overall Review

GOT S7

The seventh season of Game of Thrones can mostly be summed up by two things: characters finally meeting each other, and setting up the big finale. Now, there are also one or two big action set pieces, don’t get me wrong, but those were the main goals this season, and they were perfectly done! If I had been writing this blog back when I finally watched the series a few years ago (catching up via a Sky Christmas marathon) you’d have seen that I’m not someone who goes crazy about the show and every aspect of it, but I will definitely tip my hat to Season 7. Very few flaws and plenty of “can’t miss” TV. Let’s take an overall look at the season then, shall we!

Game of Thrones – Season 7 Episodes 6 & 7 Review

GOT S7 P3

Game of Thrones’ Season 7 finale certainly achieved what it needed to: it gave some great moments, both action and dialogue-based, and set everything up for the big finale next Season. For that it’s hard to fault the last two episodes, though there are one or two things that stick out a bit… but nonetheless: hooray for good TV! Let’s take a closer look!

Doctor Who: The Blood Furnace Review

Blood Furnace

This month’s Main Range audio continues with the Seventh Doctor, Ace and Mel combination that, sadly, has failed to really work, mostly due to its placement in Big Finish’s own timeline. While the last story was disappointing, this lived up to the fact that it looked and sounded a bit dull by … being a bit dull. Let’s take a closer look anyway, because that’s how my blog works!

WWF Royal Rumble (MD/SNES) Review

WWF Royal Rumble

The Wrestling Game Rundown returns to Acclaim 16-bit games with Royal Rumble, a particular favourite of mine. It was the 1992 Royal Rumble that turned me from casual fan to diehard “must watch everything” fan, and getting to play the titular match type sitting in my bedroom was amazing… What’s it like now? Er, well, less amazing (and in fact common place now!) Let’s take a look!

Hellsing Ultimate – Volumes V and VI Review

Hellsing Ult P3

Hellsing moves forward with its big arc of vampire Nazis invading London in blimps and airships while the Catholic church sends in its army to take advantage of both the Nazis and the Protestants being weak… Yep, that’s a plot! That being said, these two OVAs are pretty much all set up for things to come, and so as a stand-alone thing to review it makes it a bit awkward. Still, let’s take a closer look!

The Defenders – Overall Review

Defenders

It’s time to have a look at how The Defenders faired overall as a story. Over 8 episodes it managed to tell the story of four heroes finding, befriending and fighting alongside each other really well, sadly the foe they united to face remained pretty bland and uninspired. Still, can’t deny how fun the series was to watch, the interplay between everyone was great, and the lead foursome all had their stories moves forward, setting their next series’ up well. Let’s take a closer look, regardless!
