Another Mario Kart 8 Booster Pass release, another older game review! We’ve reached the full 3D polygon era of Mario Kart with Double Dash!! (Yes, complete with two exclamation marks!!) and with it a lot of things now associated with the franchise, especially the multiple drift levels and mini-boosts. It also came with a team mechanic where you choose two drivers for each kart and can even do co-op, something that has been dropped from later entries… let’s take a look!

The Battle of Jedha is a full length audio drama from Audible, and while normally that means still plenty of prose bookends this time it’s more akin to the Big Finish style audio dramas I’m accustomed to and I really enjoyed it! Admittedly I’m still a little miffed at this prequel side step phase but at least this was not only exciting but put focus on Jedha after it was talked up so much during Rogue One as a former holy place for Force Users. So let’s take a look!

The fourth season of 24 was pretty much entirely missing from my memory going into this rewatch, as mentioned in the previous review I remember not liking Season 3 that much and loving Season 5 so this sort of got lost in the shuffle. Now having re-watched the first half (roughly) I remembered some things, specifically Jack’s new love interest being introduced and the lead villains being more Middle Eastern terrorists and all that baggage. I know, I know, it was the mid 00s, it was all the rage at the time, but that doesn’t forgive it for some examples of pretty lazy writing. Want to know a bit more? Despite being such a visual enemy the Weeping Angels once again appear in a really good audio story with Albie’s Angels. It puts focus on Helen and her family in a way that’s not embarrassingly out-of-nowhere and heavy handed like in the past and it really works. Now I’m a little late with this review so paradoxically this has already appeared on my “Top 10 Doctor Who Stories of 2022” list so its quality might not come as a surprise, but hey-ho… let’s take a look anyway!

Connections is the latest Eighth Doctor stand-alone Liv & Helen set and it’s a mixed bag, but while the standout story is the next one these two stories are perfectly fine. Here Lies Drax is a fun comedy and Love Vampires is a pretty standard space station under siege story with a bit of an emotional twist. Neither will blow you away with originality, but both will keep you entertained for an hour, so let’s take a bit of a deeper look.

The final film in “Phase 4”, otherwise known as the “bit in between two big story arcs”, finishes in the same way as the others, as in being perfectly fine but not really worth shouting about. Sadly a lot of this has to do with the passing of Chadwick Boseman, whose charismatic presence was extremely missed from the film, and the choice of making Letitia Wright’s Shuri character the new central figure. Still though, we finally got an MCU version of Namor and he even has the crappy looking ankle wings! Hooray! Let’s take a close look…

Kicking off the shorter Phase 2 of the High Republic era (well, in terms of the things I have time to read, it actually kicked off with a YA book…) is Convergence, and boy it… really doesn’t do much. I mean, I enjoyed it, two warring planets see a Romeo and Juliet scenario happen with their heirs, all while the Jedi are caught in the middle, but it felt like a fun episode in the middle of a TV series that doesn’t connect the wider series narrative. With only one more wave of stories to come in this shorter phase I can kind of see where it might be going, but I’m currently not convinced that we needed to jump back in time a few hundred years for this much content… Well, anyway, let’s take a bit of a closer look!
