X-Men: The Animated Series – Season 3 Episodes 12 – 19 Review

(My review of the first half of Season 3 can be viewed by clicking HERE)

The next half of Season 3 adapts the Dark Phoenix Saga, and not just the Inner Circle stuff either, it once again includes the space-based stuff with the Shi’ar and even the “Blue Area of the Moon”, which always confused me, at least until I read more of the comics. It also has a couple of other stories either side of it, so let’s take a look (and hope I can fit the next two seasons in the next month as we finally have a date for X-Men 97!)

Final Fantasy VII: Remake – Intergrade: INTERmission (PS5) Review

Now I don’t normally review DLC add-ons separately but given this was released a while after the original and exclusively on the PS5 (well, and PC) instead of the console I reviewed the original game on (that review can be found HERE) it didn’t really fit discussing it there, so here we are! INTERmission (I guess because it’s an extra mission in Intergrade? Maybe?) is set during the latter half of Remake and focuses on Yuffie, a character who didn’t get much story in the original due to being an optional party member. Given Rebirth is just a few weeks away I thought I’d better finally get round to playing through it, so let’s get to it!

The Marvels Review

Another MCU film has hit… Disney Plus and due to the expense of bus fare and cinema tickets I skipped out on the actual cinema airing, so here’s my review of The Marvels! Honestly I hated how little I was excited about the film because of a certain subset of fans being really into ragging on the film for having female leads and I really didn’t want to be associated with them, but truth is the trailers did nothing for me so I waited for the streaming debut. Was I wrong in that? … No, I don’t think I would’ve got my money’s worth had I paid to see it, but it was still more entertaining than I thought, so let’s take a look!

Doctor Who: Sontarans vs. Rutans – The Children of the Future Review

The next release in the celebration of both Sotarans and Rutans is “The Children of the Future” fittingly featuring the Third Doctor and Sarah, the original duo who first faced off with the Sontarans 50 years ago, although this story you might be surprised to hear does not feature the Sontarans at all but is instead focused very much on the other half of the equation…

Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation Review

MONSTERS was one of Eiichiro Oda’s One Shot manga chapters he penned before creating that little known series called “One Piece” and due to his much… MUCH more famous work it has been adapted into a 20-ish minute special episode on Netflix (with the subtitle “103 Mercies Dragon Damnation”, one of Zoro’s moves from One Piece for that extra bit of connectivity) How does it fair? It’s fine, for a short story. Let’s take a look!

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (Manga) Review

Once again with this series it feels very odd to be reviewing the Manga before the game given its rightful position as a bona-fide classic, but there you go. Obviously for a SNES game that isn’t an epic JRPG the original game was quite light on story so the manga is similarly light, even at only four chapters and having added an entirely original character. It’s not bad though! Let’s take a look…

Echo Review

Echo is an odd series when you think about it. It’s simultaneously a spin-off from the Hawkeye series, a sequel/spin-off from the now finally definitely MCU canon Netflix shows like Daredevil, the first Disney + era “mature” MCU show and the first “Spotlight” series, or in other words single season mini-series. It’s all of this and a show with a deaf Indigenous lady with a metal leg as its lead protagonist… who by the end of the show has some sort of supernatural power to go along with it? Bizarre, but what did I think overall? I really enjoyed it! … Up until the finale…

Doctor Who: Sontarans vs. Rutans – The Battle of Giant’s Causeway Review

This year marks 50 years since the Sontarans debuted on screen and therefore 50 years since the Rutans were mentioned as well, so Big Finish have decided to cash in/celebrate this with what was clearly meant to be a boxset release but for whatever reason has become four separate releases over four months. Since they’re all different Doctors I would’ve had to review them separately anyway, so this works well enough for me! Most importantly in my mind though is this is the first time the TARDIS team of the Eighth Doctor, Charley and C’rizz have reunited as a “new story in an old period”, and while the era is not a favourite I can’t say the reunion didn’t make me smile when I heard. So let’s take a look at what is actually an extremely rare Sontaran and Rutan story! (though I guess won’t be rare once the four months are up…)

Assassin’s Creed: Mirage Review

“What’s old is new again” is the motto for Assassin’s Creed Mirage as it’s far closer to the original 7th Generation XBOX360/PS3 Assassin’s Creed games in structure, scope and a lot of the gameplay mechanics too. The only problem is the story itself isn’t very interesting, especially as our lead’s final fate was revealed in the previous game, which is especially frustrating because this is the first AC game to not have any modern day story content at all, something I’ve wanted since day 1 of the franchise… Oh well, let’s take a look!

Mobile Suit Gundam 00: Awakening of the Trailblazer Review

Thanks to a production delay meaning the Gundam Seed movie wasn’t released until literally now as I type this in 2024 (blimey…) Gundam 00: Awakening of the Trailblazer became the first non-UC Gundam movie released in cinemas and with it a lot of controversy. You see, as teased at the end of Season 2 the main threat of the movie is an alien race known as the ELS (“Extraterrestrial Living-metal Shape-shifters”) making this the also the first Gundam… anything to have aliens in it, something more associated with Super Robot shows than the “Real Robot” ones that Gundam pioneered. Does it work? Well, sort of. It matches what 00 has been going for from the start narrative-wise but sadly regardless of the aliens I find the film a bit of a slog… Let’s take a deeper look!
