My Top 10 Games of 2020

2020 was a weird year, but for games it was pretty much business as usual (if not bigger business than usual due to so many people staying at home!) and the same goes with my experience with them. I played quite a few 2020 games this year, but once again I lost a couple of months to a Super Robot Wars game, plus I played a lot of older games thanks to both the Games to Movie marathon and the “Scrolling Sundays” weekly feature. That’s not me complaining, for the record! Just explaining why some big releases are missing (with the exception of The Last of Us Part 2, which I didn’t end up getting due to having a bunch of things spoiled for me by whiny idiots… Stupid internet! *shakes fist*), and with that: let’s take a look!

My Top 10 Doctor Who Stories of 2020

It’s time for one of the more unique yearly features on this blog: The Top 10 Doctor Who stories list! Again, taking in stories from the TV show and audio (plus two books this year… neither of them made the top 10, but they were in the running!) there is a surprising amount to shift through. So without further ado: Let’s… ado? (that doesn’t work… whatever.)

My Top 10 TV Series/Seasons of 2020

Another year, another set of three Top 10s! This year saw a lot of films and a few TV series get delayed due to a certain global pandemic, but thankfully (for this list, it matters little compared to the death of over a million people, for the record…) there was enough that I can create another Top 10! Much like every year I’d like to point out that this is the Top 10 of the series I’ve watched, I don’t claim to have watched everything, or even a lot really… Still, fun to do, so let’s get on it!

Doctor Who: Plight of the Pimpernel Review

Another year, another final review being a Doctor Who audio drama I hadn’t got around to giving a listen before Christmas! “Plight of the Pimpernel” is sort-of a pseudo-historical, though really the sci-fi far outweighs any historical context to come from the setting, not least the fact that the titular Pimpernel is a fictional character! But how is he then alive here in this story? Let’s find out!

Fighting Force (PS1) Review

Fighting Force is one of those games I have a fond memory of, but the experience has gotten a bit worse every time I’ve got back to it. STILL, I will say that at the time I saw reviewers complain that it was “just like the old school 2D beat ‘em ups” and give it a low score and go “Wait, just like the old ones?! Great!” I was worried at the time that the scrolling beat ‘em up was pretty much dead, and to be fair it was, but this was a nice ray of hope. Playing it in 2020? Well…

Ranking The Doctor Who Christmas Specials!

Well, after a few weeks of playing “catch up”, it’s finally time to rank all the Doctor Who Christmas specials that have appeared on TV and audio (I’d love to include some of the comics, but they don’t appear in collected Graphic Novels, seemingly…) To make one thing clear, this list takes into account how good of a Christmas story it is as much as how good of a story it is in general. Basically, “which Christmas story do I think is the best to stick on Christmas Day?” Let’s find out!

Doctor Who: Time Lord Victorious – Mutually Assured Destruction Review

So here we are, the sort-of last stop for the Time Lord Victorious strand. Admittedly there is another audio story that was delayed due to a certain pandemic that’s still to come, but for the most part this is very much an end point for the story. So how does it all end, at least for the Eighth Doctor? Let’s find out!

Doctor Who: The Return of Doctor Mysterio Review

There is a sense of “it’s about time” with this review as it aired while this blog was in full swing, as evidence from the following series being covered as it aired, but I remember being really busy that Christmas and a few weeks later I hadn’t written a review for it, and it was too long since I saw it. So, here we are! “The Return of Doctor Mysterio” is a tongue-in-cheek look at the Superhero genre, specifically Superman, which while not exactly Christmassy it did at least lend itself to having a lot of fun. So let’s take a look!

Doctor Who: The Husbands of River Song Review

The Husbands of River Song is a funny one, not just because it is legitimately funny, but instead of focusing on anything too Christmassy it instead ties a neat bow around the complicated history between The Doctor and River Song, making this the adventure she had just before her final appearance (or first appearance, from our and The Doctor’s perspective). Does it work? Well… let’s find out!
