Doctor Who: The Annihilators Review

I was so excited when I heard they were doing a new seven-part full cast story set in Season 7, then I found out Nicholas Briggs was writing it and I got downhearted as his big boxset releases recently haven’t been … well, very good to be frank. Then I heard they were adding a newly recast Second Doctor played by Patrick Troughton’s son Michael into the mix and I was just … confused. Well, I’m thrilled to report that despite all this I really enjoyed the story! Mr. Briggs pulls one out of the bag at the right time for me personally (well, maybe the first ever Ninth Doctor set would’ve been a better time to do it, but hey-ho…) and even the multi-Doctor part was fun. So let’s take a look at “The Annihilators”, shall we?

Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett Review

The latest live action TV offering for Star Wars is here, and it’s not The Mandalorian… erm, until it is for the last three episodes, but hey-ho. They were good episodes! So, yeah, The Book of Boba Fett tells us just what the classic bounty hunter got up to post Sarlacc pit and it was actually a really interesting look at the character as he matures and finds a new life after his old one nearly led to his death. Let’s take a look!

Dragon Ball: Demon King Piccolo Arc (Episodes 113 – 122) Review

The Demon King Piccolo arc comes to a close (though there is a lengthy bit of part-canon, part-filler still to come after it…) with the big rematch between Goku and the titular Demon King and once again it contains a lot of tropes that would become the norm once a Z gets added onto the anime’s title, but the first few episodes are filler-rific, so… it’s not all good (though that also rings a bell in terms of DBZ…). Let’s take a look then!

Doctor Who: The Reign of Terror Review

We’re kicking off the next and rather long phase of “older Doctor Who reviews to stick in gaps on the blog” with The Reign of Terror, a story I’d only watched once before doing it again for this review. I remembered it being quite good and liking the animation, but I can only guess the more recent animated efforts have ruined the latter part of that because… yikes. Anyway, is it still “quite good” or was that the excitement of seeing animated episodes clouding it? Let’s find out!

Grand Theft Auto III (PS2) / Grand Theft Auto III: Definitive Edition (PS4) Review

Well, as promised last year I’m now going to look at the PS2 era of Grand Theft Auto games here and there, starting with GTA III. Now, the elephant in the room: the poor reception of the Definitive Edition, which I used for my fresh play through here. Thankfully the PS4 Pro version of GTA III was a very fun and pleasant experience for me, it seems like most of the issues stem from the later two games (San Andreas especially) so if you’re expecting me to roast the Definitive Edition you’ll be let down… well, at least for now, by the sounds of it. So let’s look at one of those rare games that you just can’t deny revolutionised the whole game industry…

Doctor Who: Peladon – The Death of Peladon & The Truth of Peladon Review

The second half of Big Finish’s Peladon boxset is far more straight forward in that they very much feel like stand-alone Sixth and Eighth Doctor stories that just happen to be set on Peladon. They also take place further in the planet’s timeline than we’ve ever gone before, which is something I was hoping for from the boxset but didn’t get in the first half. So… let’s take a look!

The Matrix Resurrections Review

So I finally go around to watching the fourth Matrix film after hearing mostly negative things, and you know what? This time… they’re pretty spot on, sadly. Seemingly pointing the finger at and insulting people who like the original films, really bad fight choreography and just flat and dull direction and often acting, this film has “we didn’t want to make it” written all over it, in one scene literally! Oh well, were there any highlights at all? Let’s see…

Dragon Ball: Demon King Piccolo Arc (Episodes 102 – 112) Review

After the shocking cliffhanger (well, shocking at the time, Krillin being dead isn’t a big surprise as a show goes on…) we move on to the Demon King Piccolo arc, a story arc that has quite a few firsts that will become extremely commonplace as the show moves forward… plus the debut of Yajirobe! Who doesn’t like Yajirobe?! … Anyway, let’s take a look at the first ten episodes, shall we?

Doctor Who: Peladon – The Ordeal of Peladon & The Poison of Peladon Review

I wasn’t particularly interested in the idea of a whole box of Peladon set stories, though I do enjoy the two TV stories and the Fifth Doctor audio set on the planet I wasn’t convinced… but then they revealed the Sixth and Eighth Doctors were appearing (in the next half…) and so I jumped on board. Happily these fight two stories still quite fun, and not entirely Doctor-less either… Let’s take a look!

Star Wars: The High Republic – The Fallen Star Review

The third and final book of “Phase 1” of the High Republic series arrived and certainly put their best “Empire Strikes Back” foot forward in giving the villains a big win and leaving things a little grim for our heroes. I can say that without spoilers due to the title of the book and all the cover art / posters that have been going around showing Starlight Beacon burning and crashing kind of giving that impression before reading it… Let’s take a look at “Star Wars does a disaster movie” shall we?
