It’s time to unofficially end the Doctor Who Monthly Main Range as this duo was supposed to be the release after The Lost Resort (under the title of “Perils and Nightmares”) before they were both understandably plucked from the schedule. It’s also the end of the Marc stories, which feels like they’ve only just begun. Does it end well? Is he still playing second fiddle to Adric, despite still being alive and in The Doctor’s face? The next little mini-story for the Darth Vader comics is once again an important bit of storytelling, though this time rather than reaching back to the prequels to shed a little bit of light on why Vader was beginning to soften, “Into The Fire” reaches forwards into the sequels and sheds some light of why Vader was so convinced it was too late for him to overcome the Emperor. The actual TPB is issues 6 – 11 but I’ll include 12, as while it’s advertised as a “War of the Bounty Hunters prelude” it’s really 90% an “Into the Fire” epilogue…

We arrive at our next Gundam series and it’s the start of one of the bigger “spin-off universes”, getting two full series, some OVAs and soon a film, so does that mean it’s right up there with the Universal Century stories? Erm… not in my book, anyway. Gundam SEED starts off using the blueprint of the original Gundam series but adding some more of the titular suits and a hell of a lot more teen angst. I’m watching the “HD” version, which means a lot of it is zoomed and cropped, but some of it has been reanimated! Sometimes for the worse, by all accounts… Anyway, let’s begin!

So although we’re technically already done with the monthly Main Range, this and the next story are actually the last of the Main Range, it’s just this story was delayed due to a significant part of the plot being rather similar to a certain global pandemic and so as a knock on effect the following release was also delayed (due to referencing this one, I assume). So what’s The Lost Resort like? Does it follow on the whole “Marc is Cyberman-ized and The Doctor ran for it before coming back” storyline? Well… oddly it mostly focuses on a much older storyline…

There are few sequels that disappoint quite as much as this. There are sequels that are far worse, obviously, but something about Quantum has meant each re-watch has convinced me I had it wrong and its actually good, then about half way through I start to think again, then by the end I’m like “Oh right, yeah…” It’s not flat out bad like Die Another Day or Octopussy, but it’s written to string you along only to let you down in the end… Let’s take a deeper look, anyway!

This boxset screams “recorded during lockdown” as it features The Sixth Doctor and Constance, the only pairing from that era that has been able to record at home, facing off with The Eleven and a new companion played by Eleven actor Mark Bonnar’s wife recorded in their home. Is this a bad thing? No, not really, I do enjoy The Eleven, though I feel he is becoming over-exposed, especially after his great death scene at the end of Ravenous 4. Still… this is a bit of a rambling intro, shall I just take a spoilery look at the story? Why not!

With no new games particularly appealing to me this past summer and a sudden JRPG review I had to do (plus other things on my mind…) I haven’t had a lot of chance to dedicate to gaming, but I did finally fill in the gap in my Assassin’s Creed playthroughs with the PS4 “Remastered” edition of Rogue. It was originally released on the PS3 / XBOX 360 at the same time as Unity was on PS4/XBONE as a “make do” for previous generation owners, and as I had a PS4 at the time I played the latter and never picked this up… until now! What’s it like playing it after the three rebooted AC games have changed everything? Let’s find out…

I went back and forth on whether I could review Red Dwarf for the site. On the one hand I’m doing a first ever watch through from Series I to the Dave revival series so it was the optimal time but on the other hand it’s a comedy series and therefore it’s very subjective. Sure the sci-fi setting makes it fit more naturally on this blog than a sitcom in a flat or something, but it’s going to be something new to me and especially with the first six series it will be hard to separate nostalgia and look at them objectively. Oh well! Let’s give it a go, shall we?
