If I were to list games I never thought would get turned into films “Rampage” would be right up there. It’s such an early game that there was no plot, just Godzilla-like city destruction. So, how did this simple concept translate onto the big screen? Well, not too bad really, it became a very by-the-numbers summer blockbuster affair, complete with lots of CGI city destruction and The Rock being all beefy and cool. Given the original game that’s got to be considered over-achieving! Let’s take a closer look…

Rampage (Atari 2600) Review

I was really unsure of what to do here… My first exposure to Rampage was on the Atari 2600, it was one of the few games we as a family owned on the early console that I could actually play at my young age, and so I have extremely fond memories of it. Sadly it’s comparatively crap compared to the Arcade original, which I could just as easily have reviewed, but… I just wanted to get this version on my blog, it’s right up there with the very first games I ever played. So even though it won’t review well in 2020 (yes, probably worse than the film!) here is me looking at Rampage on the Atari 2600…

Doctor Who: The Flying Dutchman / Displaced Review

Hooray! More Ace and Hex! … In two two-part stories… okay, well, one of the best from this team was just a single part (“The Word Lord”) so still looking forward to it! … Oh, one story is crap and the other is just plain. What a shame given this trio is one of the best things to come out of Main Range, this is a sorry note for what is presumably their final outing in its original series…

Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 (N64) Review

Here we have the only Japan-exclusive game on this list, thanks to importing games being expensive at the time combined with me having no money (plus getting imported PS2 games to work was a pain in the arse). I actually played VPW2 long after No Mercy, I was desperate for a new AKI engine game so imported this, and was thrilled with the results as thanks to the new-fangled higher-speed internet I was finally watching a lot of Puro that I’d only ever read about (or seen in EWR/TEW). Looking back it also now feels like a combination of AKI games and Fire Pro, my other major Wrestling game love, so that’s a big plus in my book! Let’s take a look then, at the second-to-last AKI game…

Assassin’s Creed Film Review

You almost have to applaud Assassin’s Creed for its commitment to being like the game series, especially early titles, as it was really good when it was set in the past, but the current day stuff was boring as hell. Now you’d think they would see where the game series gets most of its criticism from and try to avoid it, but nope! It truly is an Assassin’s Creed film, much to its detriment. Let’s take a closer look!

Assassin’s Creed (XBOX360) Review

I remember when this came out a lot of professional reviews were rightfully down on the game due to the repetitive nature of the missions, but I was too busy marvelling at the surroundings, having fun with the combat and generally enjoying the open world for it to bother me. Yes, eventually it all wore thin, but even then I thought to myself “what a great starting point, I bet the second one will be amazing”, and it was! Still, all these years later (and it’s weird talking about an XBOX360 game the same way I do a NES or SNES game, but there you go…) and it obviously hasn’t aged well due to the 1001 sequels that have improved and redefined it. Still, is it at least more fun than the film? Let’s find out!

Doctor Who: Tooth and Claw (Comic) Reivew

Super Dragon Ball Heroes – Universal Conflict Arc (Episodes 7 – 19) Review

Okay, last Dragon Ball review for a while, but again after sitting down to watch this I knew if I didn’t review it now I’d never get round to it. The second, far longer “story arc” in this Promotional Anime feels much like one of the old Dragon Ball Z films, just longer and somehow with even less plot. Do I expect plot out of a series that exists to promote a card-based Arcade game? No, not really, but I thought I’d mention it. Let’s take a look!
