The Punisher – Season 2 Episodes 1 – 4 Review

punisher s2 p1

The Punisher’s first season took me by surprise, as I was expecting the usual over-the-top action and violence that you get with the character, but I also got a reserved, broken version of Frank Castle and a really interesting and well-written look as PTSD. Season 2 so far has started to fall back into line with what I originally expected from the show, but the MCU version of Jigsaw is looking to be very interesting indeed…

Doctor Who: The Sinestran Kill Review

dw the sinestran kill

Series 8 of the Fourth Doctor Adventures is a significant event as it features Tom Baker’s Doctor getting a brand new companion in the form of Ann Kelso, and it’s not long before the two strike up a good back and forth. The rest of the story is an odd mix of 70s police show and general British gangland stuff, but with a heavy alien presence, obviously! Let’s take a look…

Dragon Ball Super: Broly Anime UK News Review

dbs broly

An odd time to post a review (for me anyway) but I had the pleasure of seeing a screening of the new Dragon Ball Super movie for Anime UK News and review it for them, which can be found HERE.

To sum up though: it was great! The only downside was a re-writing of Bardock, but the writing in of Broly was really well done, and man… that end battle. Talk about high production values… Anyway, click the link for a more in-depth analysis, and see the film if you can!

Krypton – Season 1 Overall Review

krypton season 1

When Krypton was announced I thought to myself “sounds boring, but I’ll probably give it a watch at some point”, and it seems I was right in that I’d eventually give it a go, but turns out it wasn’t that boring! … Eventually. Sort of. Don’t get me wrong, the series has some serious flaws, but it’s not without charm, and has some good moments towards the end. Let’s take a closer look, anyway!

One Piece – Sabaody Archipelago Arc (Episodes 385 – 405) Review

one piece sa arc

In the second of two One Piece reviews for this… probably half of the year knowing the pace I manage to watch the show at, the Sabaody Archipelago arc is a hell of a lot better than what came before it. Full of fun and interesting new characters, some interesting concepts and a classic, proper “air punching” great moment. That being said, the arc’s true highlight is a rather sombre ending… Let’s take a closer look.

Doctor Who: Ophidius and Beautiful Freak Review

dw ophidius and beautiful freak

Ophidius introduces us to Destrii, who will go on to become a companion for the Eighth Doctor down the road, but it’s also the first Doctor Who Magazine comic to be published in full colour, which would continue from then onwards, so once again this Audio / Comic Companion Debut Story has more of an impact than just the new companion. While Ophidius is the lengthier story, Beautiful Freak is perhaps one of the more well written and sombre stories in Doctor Who in general, so is definitely the star of this double bill. Let’s take a closer look, regardless…

Blake’s 7 – Audio Series 5 “Restoration – Part 1” Review

blakes 7 ad s5 p1

It’s been a little while, but we’re back with more Blake’s 7 from Big Finish. Following on from the three-box series “Crossfire”, the first box of “Restoration” not only settles the cliffhanger from the end of the previous set, but also puts us on an interesting course going forward, as any good follow up should do, while not forgetting plot points already set in motion… So let’s take a closer look at these four episodes, and kick off “Audio Series 5”!

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Switch) Review

ssb ultimate

It only feels like yesterday the mammoth marathon counting down the days to this game’s release started on this blog, but now it’s been over a month since its release and it’s time to review the game itself! Ultimate is certainly a fitting subtitle as not only does it have every previous character playable (plus new ones!) but it has a mode where you can collect “spirits”, and each of these 1,000+ spirits are based on other characters and concepts from games from all over gaming history. It’s just one giant celebration of gaming, and thankfully it’s damn fun to play as well! Let’s have a closer look then…

They Live Review

they live

They Live is a strange experience. On the one hand it wears its anti-commercialism message on its sleeve, and on the other it’s an unashamed cheesy action/sci-fi movie with funny quips and insults everywhere. One thing’s for sure though: it’s a good laugh, and Roddy Piper is surprisingly good in the lead role too (not that it’s the most complex part in cinema history…) So let’s have a look at the 1980s entry into the 10 Decades, 10 Sci-Fi films marathon…
