When Smackdown! 2 came out, all I was interested in was the impending release of No Mercy on the N64, so even though I played it once or twice around a friend’s house, it was “quick and arcade-y” and just “not as good”. While that’s still true, the following year (or two… possibly longer) I brought it cheap and had a good laugh with a friend doing the endless career mode together. Turns out having a quick and simple control style and a bit of a weird and funny career mode can do wonders to cover any flaw… for a while. Let’s take a look!

Ant-Man Review

Ant-Man was an odd one, counted as a sort of “epilogue” to Phase 2 of the MCU it pretty much stands alone (with the exception of one scene) as a fun sci-fi heist movie. I had no expectations going into it, especially as it went through several rewrites and directors, so I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be a genuinely fun film. Doctor Who: Ravagers Review

Here we go then, the dream has become reality and Christopher Eccleston is back as The Doctor for full cast Big Finish audio dramas. Sadly Mr. Briggs naturally grabbed the first release for himself, all three episodes, so the story does fall into some of his pitfalls but does the excitement of hearing Mr. Eccleston as The Doctor again overcome them?! Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture Review

After a poor OVA and a decent OVA we get … a decent film! Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture is actually the third in this series of adaptations, referring back to the two OVAs frequently to make sure you’re aware of this fact. While the budget is much higher and the stakes much bigger (via an entirely original storyline) at the end of the day the film is still no patch on the Street Fighter II Animated Movie, which really is where my fascination with this film came from… Want to know more details, or maybe see more of those sweet-sweet screen-capped-from-Crunchyroll pictures? Doctor Who: Me and My Shadow & Uroboros Review

This is one of those interesting stories that clearly exists purely to set up the big finale. “Me and My Shadow” reintroduces us to Fey/Shayde for her appearances in Uroboros and the next story titled Oblivion, while Uroboros itself … well, I’ll wait until after the spoiler warning to talk about that! So while the story is fine it does feel a bit like a prologue rather than a stand-alone story, but one that does have some great moments…

Avengers: Age of Ultron Review

While it’s safe to say Age of Ultron is the least memorable of the Avengers films, that’s not saying much as the original one was an “one of a kind” event and the last two were an even bigger “end of the core story” event, leaving this as the only one that was “just” a film. Age of Ultron does have a lot going for it, a very charismatic central villain for one, but it does also have some slower, uninteresting moments that the other three Avengers films lack… Either way: let’s take a look!

Doctor Who: Children of the Revolution Review

Children of the Revolution is a full colour strip featuring the Daleks! … In fact is the ONLY full colour strip featuring the Daleks as of 2020 (not counting the admittedly many Dalek-only stories printed in the 60s) so it has a lot to live up to. Thankfully instead of just pulling the usual “evil Daleks invade base” or “group of resisters fight back against the Daleks” it creates a far more interesting story, though admittedly one that relies heavily on your knowledge of the 2nd Doctor mostly lost (but will inevitably be animated soon) story “The Evil of the Daleks”. Does it work? Let’s find out!

How do you follow up a nuclear bomb exploding in the outskirts of LA? Well you don’t try and top it, instead you go to the other side of the thriller spectrum: espionage and suspense. While Day 2’s second half (well not quite half, but you know what I mean) has a lot of the same faults it does at least bring the season to a satisfying conclusion… only to leave a cliffhanger that ends up getting resolved in a subpar PS2 game. Yay! Let’s take a look…
