Dragon Ball: Red Ribbon Army Arc (Episodes 35 – 45) Review

Dragon Ball Red Ribbon Army Arc Pt2

It’s time for the Muscle Tower part of the Red Ribbon Army arc, a relatively small part of the narrative but one that managed to stick in a lot of fans-of-the-time’s minds, as Muscle Tower itself has managed to cameo in a lot of future games released in the 2000s. Afterwards is a small collection of mostly filler material, but hey-ho, I have to include them somewhere! Let’s take a look…

Gotham – Season 5 Review

Gotham Season 5

In one of the longer gaps between the actual airing of the series and getting this review up, let’s take a look at the final season of Gotham. The series as a whole has been an unexpected hit for me, but the villains often way overshadow the character that was supposed to be the lead, does this change in the final season? Does the rather unlikely-even-for-a-comic plot get in the way of this fact? Let’s find out!

Tekken Review

Tekken film

Tekken is an odd film. On the one hand great effort was made to make the cast look like the characters from the game (with the exception of the Jacks, anyway…) and unlike our previous film the tournament actually takes place on Earth, which is nice, but then on the other hand it’s literally Tekken crossed with Hunger Games, which isn’t exactly in the spirit of the source material! Does it still work? Let’s find out!

Tekken (PS1) Review

Tekken

I’ve always enjoyed Tekken (the games at least, the film I can give or take…), but it’s always been secondary to the 2D fighters I’ve loved from the likes of CAPCOM and SNK. Still, I have fond memories of being round a friend’s house and him showing me the game and how you can unlock certain characters, and I remember renting it out for a long weekend. How does it hold up now, after many… many sequels and spin-offs? Let’s find out!

Doctor Who: Prison in Space Review

DW Prison in Space

The Lost Stories range reaches the Second Doctor and boy… it gets off to some kind of start, that’s for sure. I can only imagine how this story would’ve came across on TV at the time, let alone retrospectively. Credit to Simon Guerrier for not changing much of the original script because I can now truly look back on this and go “Yeah, I’m glad that didn’t get made”. So with all that being said, let’s take a look at the frankly sexist Prison in Space, and then suddenly gain a new respect for The Krotons (the story that ended up replacing it when this script was rejected after author Dick Sharples refused to do re-writes).

Bleach: Can’t Fear Your Own World – Volume 1 Anime UK News Review

Bleach Cant Fear Your Own World Vol 1

It’s funny that I put up my first book review on this blog a month or two back, then suddenly I had my first book review for Anime UK News! “Can’t Fear Your Own World” is a light novel set after the end of the manga series and sees to the job of tying up a bunch of loose ends. Does the first third of this story do the job? Click HERE to find out!

Captain Commando (Arcade) Review

Captain Commando

Captain Commando, to me, will always be a fun character to play as in Marvel vs. CAPCOM 2. I didn’t know of his game back then, I just knew he was from an old CAPCOM game and enjoyed playing as him. When I eventually got the CAPCOM Legacy Collections on the PS2 I was happy to find that the game itself is really fun too, pretty much just Final Fight with weird sci-fi characters and themes… Which to be fair, reviewing the game now 15 or so years later, that’s still a pretty apt description! Let’s take a closer look…

Alien III (Audio Drama) Review

Alien III

It’s funny that I ended up getting a couple more free Audible downloads and so finally decided to give this a go, an audio drama performance of a “lost” script for an original Alien III film by William Gibson, at the same time I’m covering the Doctor Who lost stories range. I’m one of those people who doesn’t particularly like Alien3, as mentioned in my review of the film from a few years ago, so when I heard of this project I was interested to hear “what could’ve been”. Turns out Alien III is as much of a mish-mash mess as Alien3, just in a different way…

DW: The Daleks – The Destroyers Review

DW Daleks The Destroyers

Before we get to the Second Doctor’s Lost Stories, I want to cover this “Lost Story”, which was a pilot Terry Nation wrote for a standalone Dalek TV Series. It was bundled with the first Second Doctor Lost Story, but given its strong ties to First Doctor TV Serial “The Daleks’ Master Plan” I thought I’d include it here, in between the first two Doctors, although it will be stored in the Spin-Off section, obviously. So how can you have The Daleks in their own TV story? Well, just have them as the central antagonists and build a cast of characters to fight them! But does it work?

The King of Fighters Review

The King of Fighters

Okay… so you know when I talked last time about Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li messed about with the source material a bit too much? Well… THAT, but to a far, far greater degree is how you can describe this. Why did I even bother reviewing KOF ’94, in hindsight? Oh well, I’ll say this much: at least the actual fighting was, for the most part, well done, which is something it has over the previous effort. Let’s take a closer look then…
