Celebrating 1,000 Reviews!

Starting tomorrow and through to the end of the week will be reviews 998, 999 and 1,000 for me after the last five-ish years of giving it a go, so I’ve decided to do something a bit special. The most popular/most frequent things I review are Doctor Who, Games and Anime, so I decided to pick one thing from each of those categories that I “always wanted to review” and, well, review them!

So not necessarily my favourite of each category (though I’ll admit two of the three could very easily be) but something that when I started this for-fun “career” path I knew I’d cover at some point and was excited at the prospect. So look forward to that, and then next week I’ll be back to regular, if not a little full of Big Finish Audio backlog reviews, schedule.

Armoured Warriors (Arcade) Review

It’s time for the lastest game in this marathon to come from the CAPCOM Beat ‘Em Up Bundle, and also another game to not have a “Then” category, as yes, me and my friend played this for the first time just earlier this year. Armoured Warriors turned out to be a great mix of Mech combat and beat ‘em up that I’m really glad to have ended up playing rather than it just slip into the background of the 1001 other Arcade games I’ve never heard of that are probably good… Anyway, let’s take a look!

Doctor Who: Shadow of the Daleks 2 Review

It’s time for the second half of this makeshift “eight one-parters forming a sort-of whole” story and see how it comes to a close. The first part was a mixed bag of good and average, with the whole “meeting the same people in different roles” thing wearing a bit thin by the end. The King of Fighters: A New Beginning – Volume 3 Review

I told you I’d get round to Volume 3 quickly! Admittedly I also read it quickly given again it’s only five chapters and very little in the way of dialogue. Does that make it a bad thing? No, but again only if you’re a fan of the KOF franchise, perhaps even more in this volume as it makes mention of the NESTS organisation from KOF 99-01. Interested? Then read on!

Bleach – Substitute Shinigami Arc (Episodes 15 – 20) Review

It’s time to end the year with a not-every-week-but-close look at the Soul Society arc in Bleach… but first I need to finish off the preceding arc that I left with six episodes left to review (which is fairness to my past self, makes sense as these episodes are far more a prologue to the next arc than anything to do with the 14 episodes before it) These six episodes are very important to the series as a whole: we have our first Shinigami vs. Shinigami fight, we’re introduced to the idea of Captains and Lieutenants, we actually see Soul Society, and Ichigo gets his Shinigami powers, including his trademark large butcher knife blade! Does it all work in such a short amount of time? Let’s have a look!

Doctor Who: Mistress of Chaos Review

It’s time to cover the fourth, final and titular story in the “Mistress of Chaos” collected release… “Mistress of Chaos”! The story covers quite a bit of ground and is highly connected to the first two stories of this graphic novel, making it feel close to the old Eighth Doctor “story arc in a graphic novel” format, though admittedly not anywhere near the heights of those… which few are, to be fair! So how does Mistress of Chaos stand on its own? Let’s find out!

The Punisher (Mega Drive) Review

Uh-oh, here we go again! I’m afraid in order to have an actual “Then and Now” thoughts section I have to review a far inferior home version of a great Arcade game once more, in this case the 1993 Punisher game’s Mega Drive port. Maybe when “Scrolling Sundays” comes to its planned end I’ll do some bonus weeks of reviewing the actual good original versions of some of these games… With all that being said, let’s take a look!

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Review

I’ve been so close to buying “Into the Spider-Verse” many times, knowing of its reputation and frankly wanting to see it before it even got its rep. Why have I waited so long? No idea, really (might have something to do with a really long game movie marathon…) but now it’s popped onto the UK Netflix I was finally able to give it a watch. Does my opinion differ from the majority, keeping in mind I tend to like comic/manga adaptations more than most critics who still praised this film anyway? Funnily enough… No. Let’s take a look anyway!
