To celebrate the last part of my review of the Original Gundam series going up on the main review site, I thought I’d review the first Gundam game I ever played over here on Hogan Game Reviews. Dynasty Warriors: Gundam was not only the first Gundam game I played, but it introduced me to the world of Gundam outside of Wing and Seed, the only two series I’d seen at that point. Ignoring all that, though, what’s it like to play now?
The Wrestling Rundown moves forward into the 16-bit era with Super WrestleMania, the first game to use the Acclaim engine that would be used for the next three games after this. Does it get off to a strong start? Erm… no, not really.
The first non-Star Wars multiplayer only game I’ve played, and it started off as a really fun experience… until it wasn’t. Let’s have a look!
An arcade game is next up on the wrestling rundown, the only one, in fact. Thanks to the lovely MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) I have spent a couple of hours replaying this fond memory… without spending any money! Hooray! Let’s take a look…
With long game series’ like GTA (Resident Evil, Metal Gear and Dragon Ball games are the other three that spring to mind) I will be starting at the earliest entry in the series I played (in most cases it’s the first one) and moving up in order, but not every other review like the wrestling game countdown. With that out the way, let’s get started on the original GTA for the PS1! (NOTE: I was unable to find a working ROM, or ISO, of this game for screenshot purposes, so I’ve had to borrow some from GameFAQs. I hope to grab my own screens in the future, be it with a working ISO or via some sort of screen capture software, if I ever make it to that kind of professionalism!)
The rundown (finally) continues as the first licensed game appears. Again, I know there was a WWF game released before this (simply titled WrestleMania) and one after it (called Steel Cage Challenge) but as I said in entry one, this is all about the games I’ve played and can therefore give a then and now review on. I may later play some of the missed NES games and just give a “Now” review, but they won’t be apart of this rundown of Wrestling games I’ve played throughout my life. So, on to WrestleMania Challenge…
Yes, jumping straight into the modern era with my first contemporary review. I thought this was going to be the first game where I have to use promotion pictures due to not having TV capture equipment, but thankfully photos taken in game and put on an SD card can be read by PCs, so hooray! Off we go…
The rundown begins! In the first part of the soon-to-be-ongoing series, we look at Tecmo World Wrestling on the NES. It has to be said here that I never owned the iconic and simply named Pro-Wrestling (among other 8-bit and handheld wrestling games) and so it will be missed out here. Once it gets to the 16-bit era and beyond I brought pretty much every game in the Wrestling genre released here in the UK (and a few that weren’t!), so the Wrestling Rundown will start being a general rundown rather than my personal rundown quite quickly. Anyway, without further ado…
Last Battle is a strange game to start, I admit. Trust me, this isn’t one of those “I think this game gets a bad rep, I really like it” reviews. I dislike it… immensely, and because of this I thought it would make a good first review because there is plenty I can say about it, and therefore get a good hang on this whole thing. I didn’t want my first review to be all gushing about something with little criticism. So, let’s begin!
