I know, reviewing the original Dead or Alive alongside the movie would’ve made far more sense, but I never owned it, and in fact barely played it (a friend had it and brought it round a few times), where as DOA2 ended up being one of my most played fighting games on the Dreamcast. The main thing I remembered about it were super-fluid animation and controls and it being generally fun to play, but are these things still true in 2020? Let’s find out!
Here we go then! Having brought a kindle and starting to get into the habit of reading a bit before I go to bed, I thought I’d dip into some of the books relating to some of my favourite franchises here and there (probably more there than here, admittedly), and where better to start than with Doctor Who! Sadly, there are a LOT of better books to start with by all accounts, but I’ve had my eye on reading this for many, many years, and despite going into it knowing it won’t be very good, I wanted to finally get that “monkey” off my back. Plus this means I can add a “Books” section to each of the first Eight Doctor’s pages! Hooray! Let’s take a closer look then!

Time to complete the Final Fight trilogy, again a trilogy I had no idea existed back in the day. Thankfully unlike Final Fight 2, the third entry actually improves on the old system and even adds some Street Fighter systems into the mix, but is it better than the original?
It’s been a little while since I last looked at Gerry Anderson’s UFO series… by which I mean over a year (given that the first two parts still have the character breakdowns on them) but hey-ho! I’ve had more time to sit down and watch them, and the one thing I didn’t want to do is watch them when I wasn’t in the mood, because that would just unfairly dampen my view. The final eight episodes have some good gems, and the lack of Col. Freeman doesn’t hurt the show as much as I feared, so… let’s take a look!
It’s funny putting up the review for this after my review of Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, as a lot of the things I said in that review I’d already put in the notes for this one: I don’t generally like CG animation and only watch it if its attached to a franchise I enjoy, this Netflix offering has cheap and stiff animation (though this time it looks a lot more stylised, compared to the bland look of GITS) and so on. That being said, Altered Carbon’s two seasons fall on either side of the good and bad spectrum for me, so let’s see how this effects it as the tie breaker!
So Titan Comics’ Year Three comes to an end with a massive crossover storyline, as they tend to do. Last year’s crossover was something of a disappointment, but what about this year? Does throwing every Doctor at the thing until something sticks the best way to go about it? Can they have an entity called a “White Hole” without quoting the classic Red Dwarf episode?! Let’s find out!
Well… it happened again, as I knew it would. After completing Super Robot Wars V around this time last year, I said that I’d already ordered X and despite feeling burnt out I knew I’d be playing it sooner rather than later, and here we are! X had a very different feel to it due to focusing more on magic and fantasy than the more real robot-y feel of V, but it also included some fun new franchises like Gurren Lagann and Code Geass. How does it balance out? Let’s have a look!
In what may be the ultimate case of “be careful what you wish for”, we have Altered Carbon Season 2….*sigh* Damn it. Okay, it’s not that bad, but given how much I gushed over Season 1 and wished for a sequel I did feel let down that while we did get one, it turned out to be… average. Ah well… let’s take a look!
I remember back in 2004 me and my friend were reading a list of naughty-naughty ROMs and saw Final Fight 2 and Final Fight 3 listed for the SNES. We were confused, how could there have been two sequels to Final Fight and we’d never heard of them? Well, it turns out, it’s probably because they’re not very good (or at least this one isn’t), and beyond Maki appearing the Capcom vs. SNK 2, this game is never referenced again. Want more details?
