Double Dragon (NES) Review

Double Dragon NES

Double Dragon is one of the earliest examples of a scrolling beat ‘em up, one of my favourite genres as a kid, and one I still enjoy today. That being said, I didn’t actually play the original Double Dragon all that much, me and my brother rented it out once or twice, and I played it around my friends once, so this was an interesting revisit in that it felt fresher than most of the older games, with no nostalgia glasses to block any potential flaws… though given the film I reviewed alongside this, any flaws will seem pretty minimal…

Blog Schedule Update (Nothing too Serious!)

Hello all.

Just to let you know that you’ll be seeing a decrease in activity on this blog due to an increased workload at my job (where I often sneakingly wrote reviews during downtime) Now I can’t imagine a week going by without at least one review going up, and I intend to keep up with Big Finish Doctor Who reviews going up soon after they’re released (mainly because I don’t have to create / source pictures for those!), and any series or marathon I already cover / started will continue to be covered, just at a slower pace.

Key differences:

  • Less individual episode chunk reviews, more straight up “Overall Season Reviews”.
  • With no strict schedule, any review can appear at any time (in other words when I have it finished), so game reviews for instance aren’t restricted to every other Saturday, though they may become less frequent (or more frequent as they’re often quicker to do!)
  • Generally the old “review every weekday” thing I had going on is no longer possible because I had to go and be good at my job like a fool 😛

So overall there are still plenty of things to come, I’m not going any where, I’ll just be on more of a lighter schedule. I have most of the next Movie to Game reviews done (Double Dragon, for the record… Yeesh…), and the next One Piece arc has been watched and is ready to be written about. To be honest, looking at a lot of the blogs I follow, I’ll actually be falling into a more normal schedule, if anything!

So here’s to the future, full of plenty more “Goods”, “Bads” and … erm… “Continuities?”

Doctor Who: An Alien Werewolf in London Review

DW AAWIL

The first two stories in this “Mags Trilogy” scored a three, then a two. Does story number three hold up any better? Well… no, not really. After the disaster that has been the Ace/Mel stories, these have sadly continued the trend of poor Seventh Doctor audios, which is a shame because that particular Doctor used to be the highlight of the Main Range. Well, let’s take a look at this one, anyway…

Bernice Summerfield: Legion Review

BS Legion

Bernice Summerfield has finally reached Legion, and … once again we get a boxset of mostly completely stand-alone episodes, one of which ended up being a backdoor pilot for a different audio series all together. It’s not a bad thing to have single stories from time to time, but after a box of them stalling time for Benny to get to Legion, it was an odd choice… Let’s take a look if they still stand well on their own, anyway!

Mobile Suit Gundam: Narrative Review

Gundam Narrative

I uncharacteristically spent a little extra money on importing the latest entry into the Universal Century Gundam timeline, Narrative having English subtitles and a dub on the Japanese blu-ray disc. Why not, right? So what’s it like? It’s a bit short of time for character development beyond the lead trio, but I did really enjoy it, and it filled in a plothole that Unicorn created very neatly, so now we can move on to Hathaway’s Flash without wondering why everyone isn’t using crazy Psycho-Frame Gundams… Let’s have a look!

Mega Man 7 (SNES) Review

Mega Man 7

It’s been a good while since I finished my reviews of the original NES run of Mega Man games, and while I dipped my toe in Castlevania in the meantime (and will continue to do so!) I’ve fired up Mega Man 7 and continued my journey through the original line of Mega Man games, a line that now includes an 11th entry! So let’s have a look at the only 16-bit original Mega Man entry then, shall we?

Doctor Who: Sin Eaters Review

DW Sin Eaters

Sin Eaters serves as a farewell to the Ninth Doctor Titan comics, giving us a good, pretty much stand-alone two-part story, then a somewhat hurried triple bill to end on. It’s good though, it’s a shame that out of the original foursome of “New Who” that the least served Doctor TV-wise would be the first to get their run cancelled, but hey-ho… let’s take a closer look!
