Doctor Who: Rosa Review

DW Rosa

Rosa is a hard episode to review. As a Doctor Who episode it was alright, the lead villain was bit pants but on the upside Jodie Whittaker felt much more funny and interesting this time round. As an episode made to highlight both how horrible racism is and as a history lesson to show how one lady refusing to give up her seat on a bus lead to such a big change, it was good. I guess it all comes down to what you want out of the episode, but let’s have a look one way or another…

Mega Man 5 (NES) Review

Mega Man V

As we near the end of the original NES run of Mega Man games, we start to see the problem with an action platforming game releasing so many entries on a single system. While there is a new bird companion (if you manage to collect all the slightly-hidden letters on all stages, which for the record, I didn’t… That’s what I get for going in blind!) the game otherwise feel like the same old, same old. Is that a bad thing, though? Let’s find out!

Doctor Who: The Quantum Possibility Engine Review

DW The Quantum Possibility Engine

While this TARDIS team has had more misses than hits, The Quantum Possibility Engine is at least a fun story, more comic book silliness (with some actually well-written political satire) than standard Who, and given it has Dogbolter from from comics, that’s a fitting decision. Let’s take a closer look then, at the end of this most recent Doctor-Ace-Mel trilogy…

Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack Review

Gundam CCA

It’s been a little while since we returned to the Universal Century, mostly thanks to a slow down in UK Blu-Ray releases. Well, the Unicorn OVAs are now on Netflix is near-HD quality so I thought I’d do that, but before I get to them I didn’t want to skip past Char’s Counterattack, the big film that ties up all the Amuro and Char loose ends left over from the first two Gundam series. So let’s have a look at it (via my old US region DVD…), and see the big finale for the Amuro-Char relationship we’ve been watching develop since the very start…

Forbidden Planet Review

Forbidden Planet

It’s the 1950s and we already have our first colour film in this “10 Decades” marathon. Forbidden Planet has been on my mental “to watch” list for many, many years, the design of Robby the Robot being just one of many things from this film that has been referenced or parodied in countless shows, movies and games I’ve experienced over the years. Turns out, after all this unintentional waiting, that the film is just a really good sci-fi story even now. Amazing effects for the time, a talented cast, and an interesting central plot, it’s only a slow middle that really hurts this otherwise gem of a film. Let’s take a closer look!

Doctor Who: The Ghost Monument Review

DW The Ghost Monument

Doctor Who begins to settle into its new groove with The Ghost Monument, which was a fun trek across a dangerous alien planet, and while it won’t win any originality awards (which at this point are incredibly hard to “win” thanks to there being just so many Who stories anyway) it was a fun way to pass an hour. New TARDIS interior and new opening completes the “new era” package, and we even get the old “hint of a future plot point” thrown in! Let’s take a closer look…

Doctor Who: Ravenous 2 – Seizure Review

DW Rav2 P3

Ravenous 2 ends with “Seizure”, a story that goes full on with the horror clichés, though admittedly with a Doctor Who twist of being set inside a dying TARDIS. We’re finally introduced to the Ravenous, or a member of the Ravenous, who turns out is some sort of demonic… zombie… thing, who likes to have a bit of a chat. Let’s take a look!

WWF In Your House (PS1) Review

WWF In Your House

Now I can’t remember whether I played this first or Power Move Pro Wrestling, but given this is sort of the last gasp of the 2D era (not including Fire Pro games!) I thought it would make sense to do this next. Plus, thanks to a Smash Bros. marathon I have planned, this will likely be the last Wrestling Game Rundown review of this year, giving us 2019 to dive fully into the realm of early 3D games… What’s that? WWF In Your House? Yeah, it’s shit. Don’t bother with it. You want to know more? Oh well, fine then…
