The King of Dragons (Arcade) Review

After five weeks of raging on the streets we’re back to CAPCOM and back to medieval fantasy, so couldn’t be any more different if it tried! The King of Dragons is an odd one because it mixes an RPG levelling up system to the mix as well as classes having different strengths and weaknesses, so we’re going full on Dungeons and Dragons. Let’s take a look if this mix works, and whether it’s better than the extremely similar game “Knights of the Round” CAPCOM themselves released a few months later… (coming next week!)

Doctor Who: The Keep / Fire and Brimstone Review

It’s fitting that the first Eighth Doctor DWM comic story after the already-covered Endgame is one that features the Threshold, given it was finally reading Ground Zero that made me decide to cover them in between the Lost Stories. What I’d forgotten about though was the inclusion of The Daleks, who I’d only remembered appearing in these Eighth Doctor strips when they become colour. Do all these elements (and more!) make a cohesive story? Let’s find out!

Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme VS. Maxiboost ON (PS4) Review

This is the third Extreme VS. game I’ve played (fourth if you include the sadly limited PS4 reboot attempt from a couple of years ago) but the first that I brought without importing from Asia due to it getting an official English release (sadly digital only, but hey-ho) It’s actually a direct port of the Arcade game, a new game (“Gundam Extreme VS. 2”) having made this one old hat in the actual Arcades themselves. So what’s the home port like? Is there much in it for a single player? Could they have created a more Japanese sounding title?! Let’s find out!

Hitman: Agent 47 Review

I’ve only properly played one Hitman game in my gaming life, and that was covered with the previous film earlier in this marathon, so consider this a “bonus” review with no game review alongside it! The original Hitman film turned a game about stealth, infiltration and assassination and swiftly turned it into an average action film, so what does this reboot do differently? They add in super-powers and up the action to crazy extremes, properly flying in the face of what the games are… hooray! Taking the mistake and making it worse! Oh well, let’s take a look and see if it stands on its own away from the game comparisons, shall we?

Doctor Who: The Mega Review

It’s time for the one and only Third Doctor lost story: The Mega. Told across six parts and featuring the full UNIT crew, the story could’ve been a lost classic for my favourite era of the show. Sadly it’s a good example of the occasional really dull and overly long stories you used to get in the era. It’s not a total lost cause or anything, but this could’ve stayed lost and I wouldn’t have been all that bothered…

Super Dragon Ball Heroes – Prison Planet Arc (Episodes 1 – 6) Review

I’ll get round to Gundam Wing in a few weeks, having just watched this on a whim I wanted to get the review written because frankly I’m unlikely to watch it again… So, what is Super Dragon Ball Heroes? Why, it’s a “Promotional Anime”, written right under the logo in the top left of the free online uploads of the episodes. What does that mean? It means it’s nonsense… utter, utter nonsense. It exists to give some slight visual context to some made up cards people can use in the popular (in Japan) Arcade game of the same name. Is it still fun to watch though? Well given it’s been a couple of years and I’m only now just getting round to it, I didn’t think so going in, but…

Streets of Rage 4 (PS4) Review

After over two decades, it finally happened: Streets of Rage 4 was announced, and I was so excited, especially as it was actually 2D and not some awful 2.5D cheap bollocks like a lot of revivals of classic games tend to be. Still, I lowered my expectations and intentionally didn’t read up about it so as to make the first playthough as fun as possible and sure enough: I was blown away. The art style, the super-smooth animations, the hard-hitting combos and funny references to the original trilogy all combine to create a genuinely amazing time for me personally. Want to hear more, like how it holds up after multiple playthroughs? Read on!

Doctor Who: Out of Time Review

If you asked me what my dream multi-Doctor story was, I’d always say “10th and 4th Doctors in a Two Doctors style crossover”. Well, earlier in the year this story was announced and I was thrilled! Finally something great came out of the currently not-at-all-great situation the world finds itself in as it allowed this apparently long-gestating story to finally be made due to Mr. Tennant’s TV schedule rather predictably being dramatically reduced. Does it live up to the hype? Does the addition of the Daleks add or take away from the experience? Let’s find out!

Dead Rising: Endgame Review

The original Dead Rising film, “Watchtower”, was a good laugh, a B-movie that stuck quite rigidly to the game world it was set in. Sadly, unlike Dead Rising’s second game, its second movie was a step down, and its B-movie charm all but gone and replaced with… I don’t know, dullness. I think they got away with it as a one off, but as they try to expand this live-action spin-off world I think they forgot what made the first work. More info? Let’s look deeper!

Dead Rising 2 / Off The Record (XBOX 360) Review

Dead Rising 2 was a pleasant surprise to me. Unlike the sequel film, the sequel game took what worked in the original and built on it while improving or getting rid of the things that didn’t. Sounds obvious, but not all sequels actually manage to do this! I played quite a bit of DR2, and then I brought the spin-off non-canon retelling titled “Off the Record”, which is why I’m including it here. Beyond the retold story and a few small addition, they’re essentially the same, so they’d be little point in doing separate reviews… Anyway, let’s have a look!
