So the late 90s and 2000s were devoid of new Streets of Rage. The franchise was officially dead in Sega’s eyes, not even being included in Sega All-Stars Racing… Luckily for us a bunch of fans got together in 2011 and released an extremely polished and professionally made sequel / remake titled “Streets of Rage: Remake”. Featuring all levels and enemies from all three games, plus a bunch of new stuff, it was a dream to play through, even after Sega’s legal team shut it down (*grumble, grumble*) The question is, now we have an official sequel, what’s this like to return to? Let’s find out!
Time to wrap up this section of the Dragon Ball story, from Fortune Teller Baba to Grandpa Gohan all the way to the last episode of filler before the three year time skip, there is a lot to cover. In amongst invisible men getting nosebled on and devils fighting in a room adorned with a giant toilet, there is one of the best choreographed fights in the series. Intrigued? Read onwards as we wave a goodbye to the “classic Toriyama gag manga era” of the Dragon Ball series.
Back in the Main Range a few years ago there was a trilogy of stories where The Sixth Doctor met back up with an older Peri, the one that lived as a Queen alongside Brian Blessed (truly a fate worse than death…) This new plot thread was then dropped without a conclusion to the whole Peri thing… Until now! This “Doctor and Peri” set picks up that thread and, at least so far, gives us a continuation of the new “era”, even though I doubt it gives it any finality just yet. The first two stories are… rather by-the-numbers in two completely different settings, so let’s take a look!

You know, all things considered, Dead Rising: Watchtower has to be one of the better game adaptation movies out there. Now this comes mainly because the original games were pretty much based on cheesy zombie B-movies, so making a Dead Rising film as a cheesy zombie B-movie was a pretty simple task! It also oddly takes place within the game’s universe, referring to the events of Dead Rising 1 and 2 and even featuring game protagonist Frank West in the flesh. So it certainly scores well on the game adaptation front, but how does it do on the “fun film to watch” front?
The original Dead Rising was one of those games that looked amazing: free-roaming zombie outbreak in a mall with loads of weapons, including stupid comedic ones? Yes please! Sadly, upon playing it, the tight time limit and poor companion AI really let it down… At least by memory, what about now?! Has this somehow changed? I am replaying it because of the film I’m reviewing alongside it, or am I doing it because I truly believe something may have changed in the past decade or so? … Yeah. Well, maybe it’s not as bad as I remember? Let’s find out!
It’s time to reunite the Doctor with his companions and explore poor old Marc a bit more… plus the Slitheen, because… ugh, I have no idea. Also a surprising cameo at the end of the first story, which I’ll get too after the spoilers warning! So let’s take a look then!
I really enjoyed the first season of Umbrella Academy, but after a disappointing second season for Altered Carbon I was worried about this follow up. Turns out I didn’t need to be because Umbrella Academy Season 2 was great, a perfect follow up that develops its core cast, gives them a new setting and still manages to keep the sense of fun alongside the drama. Let’s take a closer look!
About 7-10 years ago this was the final entry in the franchise, then Streets of Rage Remake was released by fans, but 3 was still the last official entry, so it’s odd to talk about this game in the middle of looking at the franchise rather than the end! SOR3 never got anywhere near as much play from me as II did, which was odd at the time because I couldn’t place why… It wasn’t until the advent of the internet and ROMs that I found out the US/PAL version of 3 was many times harder than even the Japanese version’s hard mode, which probably explains it! So me and my friend played through the JPN version here, and have done since the ROM days, a version which includes a controversial sub boss to boot! So let’s take a look at the old “end of the trilogy”, shall we?
So we had a bad 2nd Doctor Lost Story, then a good one, then a bad one, so sure enough the next (and final) one is a good one again! “Lords of the Red Planet” is an Ice Warriors origin story of sorts and was originally written by Brian Hayles, the man who created the Martian species, but it was eventually dropped in favour of a more traditional “base under siege” Ice Warriors story instead (“The Seeds of Death”) It has a larger cast than most of these earlier Lost Stories and generally is great fun, so let’s take a look!
