King of Fighters 94

My first Neo Geo review! … of very few, to be fair, not having owned one. Still, it was easier to get a collection of NEO-GEO games on the PS2 / Wii than it was SNK Arcade game collections. To be fair though, I wanted to start at the start and eventually cover the whole KOF franchise down the road, but I could’ve sworn I played this on the PS1. Looking into it, it must have been KOF 95 I played on that console… Oh well! I got them all in the various PS2 collections of the franchise, so let’s just crack on, after covering a CG anime series, a crossover fighter and a manga (not to mention a live action film alongside this!), it’s about time I actually covered one of the games!

One Piece – Wano Arc (892 – 929) Review

One Piece Wano Arc Part 1

So a bit of a big leap forward in terms of One Piece reviews on this blog, but that’s Crunchyroll UK finally getting streaming rights for you! Yes, I’m covering a batch of recently-aired episodes (stopping at the point where the pandemic stopped the series, though it has resumed before this has gone up!), obviously this isn’t the end of older One Piece reviews as given I do them in batches of roughly 30 or so episodes, these new episode reviews will only be once or twice a year! SO the Wano Arc sees the crew finally arrive in the long-teased country, with the large looming shadow of the even longer teased Kaido in the background. Let’s take a look at how it starts!

The Old Guard

I’ll be honest here and say this film came out of nowhere for me. I’d never heard of the comic, and honestly hadn’t heard of the film until about a week and a half ago when I saw the coming soon trailer. All that being said, I stuck it on the TV on Saturday and really enjoyed it! It follows a group of immortals and covers all the entertaining ground you can with the concept, from the horrors of out-living everyone, to the fear of being locked away forever… and more! Alien Storm (Mega Drive) Review

Alien Storm

Alien Storm is a game I had on the Master System, which wasn’t as different as you’re probably imagining, but still, for this review me and my friend played through the Mega Drive version as … well, it’s actually two-player, for a start off. Plus being able to take screenshots easier helps too! The game is pretty much Golden Axe with a sci-fi setting rather than fantasy, but with one key difference: first-person reticle shooter segments! Thanks to a certain pandemic the sequel series to the one I only just reviewed (or rather, my review for only just went up) is already seeing a release in… I’m just going to put 2202 to save me typing all that out again. It’s hard to judge as it’s only half the story, but I’m liking it so far, even if the way to get everyone back into space was a bit iffy. You can read the review by clicking HERE!

WWF Attitude

WWF Attitude was quite the big deal when it came out, to me it was mostly because it actually had a career mode with a calendar screen, house shows, the works. I was really excited, and thankfully I wasn’t disappointed, and the create-a-wrestler suite was amazing (at the time) to top things off. I’ll admit the Dreamcast version, which did have improved graphics, is only in my collection because it came with the console, but I did play it a bit, and used it for the purposes of this review, meaning I probably played the Dreamcast version more in 2020 than I did in 1999/2000… Anyway, let’s take a look!

Street Fighter Legend of Chun Li

I went into Legend of Chun-Li with trepidation. I knew it had a bad reputation (as nearly all these films do!) but at the same time I thought “Well, I’m sure it at least has some decent fight scenes to pass the time…” Somehow I was even wrong on that account. Unlike the games that inspired it, this film is devoid of interesting characters and exciting fighting. In other words… *sigh*. Let’s take a look at the first of four fighting game adaptation films in a row!

So back in the “Countdown to Smash Ultimate” I covered the first three versions of Street Fighter II, and with the first SF film I looked at the first SF game, so to take the sting off of “Legend of the Chun-Li” I thought I’d look at the only version of SFII I actually owned back in the day: Super Street Fighter II on the Mega Drive, and then I thought “why not?” and threw in the Arcade Super Turbo in as well, as I technically own it on the Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2 for the PS2 (though I played a MAME emulation for this as I hear the PS2 port is glitchy). So let’s take a look at the final vers- Oh, right. Well, let’s take a look at the final versions of SFII that were released in the 90s…

Doctor Who: The Dark Planet Review

The run of First Doctor Lost Stories comes to an end with a story set during that rare Doctor, Ian, Barbara and Vicki period of the show, and a script that was clearly shot down at the due to budget! (Actually turns out it was shot down due to being too similar to another story they were developing, The Hidden Planet by Malcolm Hulke, which ironically also wouldn’t see the light of day) Large crystal cities, people literally made of light and shadow, several scenes of people flying… It just wouldn’t have worked. At all. Still, does it work as an adapted “advanced audiobook”? That’s the main question! Let’s find out…
